The photos presented here are my final draft 3 versions for my Music Magazine. I took into consideration my feedback given from all my second drafts and enjoyed changing and adding more things to enhance the quality of my magazine.

  • I made all the colours as neon as I could.
  • I added more coverlines of different artists names.
  • I added more contrast to my black and white photo.

Feedback:

Double Page Spread:

  • ‘So you thought Punk was dead’ and ‘Met70’ – needs to be more prominent and make it stand out more. Maybe use a drop shadow.

Contents Page:

  • Change stories so there’s more about other artists/ bands – not just EZ. Keep page 21.
  • Get rid of full stops on coverlines.
  • Put artists names in capitals and colour.
  • Use & not ‘and’.
  • Make photo of Max and Anya narrower.

Double Page Spread:

  • Move page number – not as close to bottom.
  • Add a quote.
  • Make both columns in one box each.
  • Check layout – make sure info isn’t near middle of page.
  • Move Ez to the left.

Chosen Adverts

For my music magazine, I need to choose two A4 adverts that match with my genre and are striking as a product related to Punk. I appreciate this isn’t going to be marked but for the purposes of presentation, having an extra page in the magazine helped make the Flipsnack platform work better.  However, it was an interesting exercise in reaffirming that I knew who exactly my target audience were.

First Advert

Second advert

I have chosen both of these adverts because they are current trends that are very symbolic to the Punk industry. Tattoos have been around thousands of years back and the Doc Martens launched 60 years ago, which proves that both remain timeless products for the forseeable future. Also, both of these items are unisex which is great to work with as it appeals to a much wider audience and doesn’t single out any gender.

Second draft of Double Page Spread

This is my second draft of my DPS. I improved my work with help from the targets I received on my first draft.

What’s New?

  • I have changed the heading and the font.
  • I have added my own article.
  • I changed the main cover photo to Ez with a filter as the magazine is focused on her.
  • I downloaded and added two new fonts.
  • I changed the colours.

What’s next?

  • love the main image….more of it…and what about being really unconventional and having it sideways so that we can get it all in? you could argue that it is punk so unconventional?
  • then you don’t need so many of the other images. the insets of Max and Anya can be more minor?
  • de-hyphenate the copy
  • caption the insets
  • do the page numbers correspond to those on the contents page
  • font a bit san serif…blocky so hard to read and very near the bounding boxes?
  • questions in capitals or another font?
  • spacing of headlines and copy – all a bit squashed?

Second Draft of Contents Page

I think I have improved my Contents Page hugely by addressing my feedback from my last draft.

So, what’s new?

  • I’ve added more colours to fit the Punk genre.
  • I’ve added more numbers on my pictures and referred to them in the ‘features’ section.
  • I’ve added pictures from my photo shoot at Castle Cornet to create more tension for the readers when they’re reading the problematic information I have included about the Ex-bandmates.
  • I changed the fonts and changed the colours on the ‘contents’ colours.

Contents page draft 2

My Targets for my Third Draft:

  • I need to place my page number on the right handside.
  • Include my magazine name at the top.
  • Feature other bands/ articles, not just Ez.
  • Lower all numbers.
  • Change number 54 to much lower so it’s the front and most important issue.

Feedback:

  • Feel the inset needs to be bounded, framed somehow – even with an effect like the top image as a frame?  and add a caption to it?
  • caption Ez too
  • more coverlines
  • make some of the cover lines a different colour or add some upper case to some of the key words
  • page 3 should be bottom right hand corner
  • capital letters for proper nouns i.e. band, artists’ names
  • too many coverlines on Ez…put some other names in, other artists.
  • As its Punk why not have some splash headlines for example TOP SECRET do as a special banner? have some fun with it?

Second Draft of Front Page

This is my second draft of my front page for my music magazine. To make the second draft more effective, I made sure I took into thought of my targets given from my last draft.

What’s New?

To create a more effective front page, I added more colours to create a vibrant and bigger punk feel to my magazine. I also changed the way Ez was facing to bring the audience’s attention to the information as it’s like she’s inviting them to read about what she’s interested in and what is held in the magazine. Lastly, I changed the font of my masthead, added more coverlines of what’s involved in the magazine and also moved around the display of the coverlines. I did this to add to the effect of punk as it should be jam-packed with colours, information and funky display styles to suit the genre.

What Are My Own Targets?

For my third draft of my front page, my main targets are:

  • To make my masthead slightly bigger.
  • Make the outline of the words brighter to make them more bold.
  • Make all the colours much more vibrant and neon.

Teacher’s Targets:

  • Make the green more neon.
  • More cover lines with artists names.
  • Add contrast to the black and white main cover artist.
  • Try the lipstick in pink in photoshop.
  • Masthead could be slightly bigger.

First Draft of Double Page Spread

My first draft of my double page spread

I am proud of my first draft of my double page spread as I think my colours, MES and fonts suit the Punk genre. I used the uses and gratification theory to make sure I made an entertaining and informatical magazine article. In my next draft I am going to make sure my article is in a conversational and laid-back tone as I think this will entice my target audience the most to read my magazines now and in the future. Overall, I think by doing this I have made myself a good starting point because I now have a clear design that I can follow for my next draft.

Feedback:

  • Photos are too similar
  • Make the main image big and bold…it is good with great attitude – photoshop
  • Not sure about the country and wester font
  • I think the headline could be more anarchic….
  • Stand first is bold and bigger…
  • Then you have the drop capital where the actual article starts
  • Columns too close to the edge of the box….gutter space?
  • Remove hyphenates
  • Byline?
  • Choose fonts and some drop shadows and depth to the border – bevel and emboss

I now have a clear understanding of how to reach my target audience in terms of the uses and gratification theory and colours. However, in my second draft I will make sure to get a more catchy headline and more interesting photos as well as a pug as these are three of the most important factors to draw my target audience’s attention.
