Music video draft 3

Component 3, Music Video

What has changed:

  • Completed the video to the end with clips
  • Adjusted some of the lip syncing and transitions
  • Edited to the beat more
  • Shortened some of the clips
  • Scaled and re positioned some of the clips

Feedback from other students:

Improvements:

  • Add filters to make our clips more vibrant
  • Adjust more of the lip syncing
  • Make the end clip shorter
  • crop clips to cut out surroundings which are not needed and to focus on facial expressions etc.
  • Make the flashbacks more obvious they are looking back (use filter/ effect)

Specsavers Feedback

Component 3, Music Video

Specsavers came in to one of our media lessons and came around to each group and gave us constructive feedback on our music video. They told us that our fast paced editing worked really well and how we managed to edit our clips to the beat of the song and were told to continue with this. Another thing they said was that our video worked well because we used three different locations which were all separated evenly throughout the video. He also told us to make sure that we evenly space out the narrative and the performance.

Improvements:

  • Include some more transitions and effects
  • Apply filters
  • Adjust some of the lip syncing

Tips:

  • Slow motion could be used with the pan at the start
  • Use the de saturation tool when using the flashbacks
  • showed us the invert tool

These tips and improvements from Specsavers will now help us in improving our work.

Teacher Feedback- screencastify

Component 3, Music Video

This screencastify has helped me to understand what parts of my music video I can improve on and what is going well. From my groups feedback we have been told that some of our clips need to be more in sync and cut to improve and give a more clean finish. We were also told that a filter could be used to make the background of our performance clips brighter and stand out more. Match on action needs to be quicker. There has been a good use of location for the performance and narrative. Need to look into the colours and also the composition of the clips some could be more off centre done purposely and adjust framing of the shots. The singing in the narrative works well.

Improvements:

  •  Add a filter and make backgrounds brighter
  •  Adjust clip lengths and lip syncing
  •  Slow motion on some of the clips
  • off set some clips and adjust framing

Music video draft 2

Component 3, Music Video

Self Assessment of Draft 2:

I think our music video has been successful because we have used a tripod throughout so the majority of shots are steady unless used for affect. We have thought about composition but some shots could be edited and cropped in more to have full focus on the singer. We have used a variety of different shot angles and distances to make our video interesting and engaging, however with some of the shots we could purposely canter them etc. MES is displayed well in our music video with the performance giving this pop genre. We have thought about pace of edit and editing to the beat but could do this even further and more of it.

Improvement

  • Use some more close up shots by using the crop tool
  • Canter some shot
  • Add in effects which contribute to the overall feel of the video
  • Some of the lip syncing needs to be adjusted as they are slightly out
  • Transitions need to be included and sharpened
  • Edit to the beat to make our video fast paced and flow

Video Narrative Story/Shot sheets

Component 3, Music Video

Before shooting my narrative scenes me and my group drew a framing shot of each main scene on a piece of A4 with annotations of the different shots/ camera angles we will be using on the shoot. We also thought about the composition of the scenes and how we want the frame to look like at that certain point. It will help us when filming as it will create structure and make sure we have covered the shot list.

Shoot 2 Reflection – Narrative

Component 3, Music Video

For our Narrative shoot we chose to go to Pleinmont and use the bunkers, We went at around 2.

What went well?

  • Overall I think that our Narrative shoot was successful and really liked the costumes, hair and makeup which we chose to include as it fit well with the lyrics of the song/ genre.
  • The setting was also really good and related well to the song.
  • I think we got a good range of shots too but to improve it would be better if we had filmed some more transition shots to make it more interesting.
  • I like how we conveyed a simple but interesting storyline too which fits well with the lyrics making it all tie in well together.
  • We also had some good props: tape, chains, rope to show  imprisonment and vulnerability. These helped to convey meaning and set the scene.

EBI:

  • To improve next time I would make sure the shoot is planned better and we have a clear storyboard.
  • Also would make sure we had more time as we filmed at the end of the day and we didn’t have much time.
  • Another thing to improve on is the exposure in some of the shots as some parts are too over exposed I would do this by adjusting the camera settings or using different lighting.

I don’t think we will need to do another shoot for our narrative because we have quite a few different clips apart from we may need some more running parts but on the whole I think we will have enough to complete our music video. We made sure to film start, middle and End so think we have included everything.

Production Meeting for Shoot 2 – Narrative

Component 3, Music Video

After filming the performance section of our music video we then moved onto Narrative. We started off by creating another production meeting plan which helped us to get an idea of the costumes (MES) which we are going to use. It also helps us to know where and what time we are going to film and each persons individual responsibilities. By creating this plan it helps to make sure we include everything and make sure our MES matches our genre of song.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

Component 3, Music Video

From our clips of our performance we had a go at editing roughly a 30 second clip of Eve lip syncing for practice. I think this rough clip overall went quite well because we included and switched between each setting we used. The lip syncing is also quite accurate and we cut it quite well to match the timing of the song but some bits are slightly not in time. We also included plenty of different clips and shots to make it more interesting. I like the fade to black bit we used too.

Targets:

  • Check background of shots to make sure there nothing that’s not wanted
  • Make sure lip syncing is spot on
  • Include some shorter clips for effect
  • Transition shots
  • Smooth transition into each clip using effects of premier pro
  • Arrange differently
  • Adjust levels

By doing a rough cut is has helped me to see what I need to do to improve for my final video. It has also helped me to get used to the different tools on Premier Pro and how to use them to make a music video.
