Test shoot

Component 3, Preliminary Video Tasks

Me and Chloe then made a lip sync video where we had to film the chorus of our song ‘prisoner’ which we then had to edit. We had to include a variety of shots and make sure there were some close ups. We represented our star by using MES and camera angles to help portray the star similar to the artist. Once we filmed a variety of shots we then used Premier Pro to edit our clips to the beat and add in some transitions and the chorus soundtrack. In our video we wanted to portray the star as ordinary and extra ordinary so the star is more like us and this helps for the audience to relate to the star.

Richard Dyer came up with the theory ‘paradox of the star’ which is about star image and the construction of the star as artificial and created and that each individual star develops their own unique selling point.

what went well:
– Good lip syncing – in time
– Camera angles
– facial expressions work
– locations worked quite well and match the song

Even better if:
– Think more about costume, props
– Needs to have better lighting in some parts of the video
– The camera needs to be more focused
– Include some more close ups

By creating this lip sync video to the chorus of our chosen song it will help me when it comes to making my actual music video because I have had practice with using different camera angles and shots. I have also had practice with editing on premier pro, cutting clips, editing lip syncing clips to music etc.

Prelim Task Mood Montage

Component 1, Preliminary Video Tasks

Before creating our own montage video we made a plan and created a detailed storyboard which shows what kind of shots we will be using and the scenes that will make up our video. It has helped us to breakdown the theme which is ‘early bird catches the worm’ and how we are going to convey it in a clear way.

We then created a short montage which followed our storyboard:

Strengths:

  • some different camera shots
  • idea of two points of view portrayed
  • time is shown to add to the idea of ‘an early bird catches the worm’

Weaknesses:

  • not finished
  • not very clear what is happening
  • MES is not very good – poor lighting, not many props, costumes are not very distinct.

From creating my own mini montage I have learnt that good composition, camera angles, good MES and framing is key to make a good narrative. This will help me in the future when I make my own music video because I now know what to include to make my video successful and how a narrative can be portrayed. I have also learnt some basic editing and filming techniques from completing this task.
