Photoshoot / Design Production Meeting and Risk Assessment

Component 3, Digipak

Before we went ahead with the shoot we made a production meeting and risk assessment sheet to make sure that we have all the equipment and things we need for this shoot. It also helps us to stay organised and have a clear plan of what we are going to do. A risk assessment is also important to make sure there are no hazards whist completing the shoot and if there are, how we will go about this. For this shoot we are going to use both the black and white studio with lighting. We are going to take a series of images of our model represented in a dark but angelic way. Our aims for the shoot are:

– use good MES
– convey our music genre
– portray a desirable star image

Component 3, Digipak

Here is a rough idea I came up with for my Digipak. I thought about the colour scheme that I was going to use, where the name of the artist was going to be, the images which are going to be used on the cover and any other key technical convention. The representation I want to create is the star as confident, fun and quirky. Also use graphics and images to help attract people to the album and make them want to buy it (aesthetically pleasing). Below I’ve also attached a colour wheel of the colours which I want to include.

Digipak Conventions Analysis

Component 3, Digipak

I had a look at some professional Digipak front and back covers who fit the genre of our artist/ music and found this Jessie J cover. I then did a detailed analysis of this looking into all the typical conventions of a Digipak and annotated how the cover shows and portrays the artist and genre of music. By analysing a professional Digipak cover it will help me in the future when creating my own cover because I have learnt all the key conventions of one and the meaning  of them. It has also helped me to get an idea of how they are laid out and what needs to be included to make a good one. It is important to have an interesting and conventional cover to attract audiences and make them want to buy the album.

The Look Book – the branding package

Component 3, Digipak

Hers is our mood board of inspiration me and my croup created surrounding ideas for our Digipak. We took inspiration from our artists and similar artists social media pages to get an idea of the colour schemes, fonts and images. We included other images relevant to our genre –  colours we want to include in our own work and how we want our star image to be portrayed: confident, fun, quirky, creative, passionate etc. This inspiration will help us to convey a particular style in our Digipak and how to represent our star and her music.

Our mission statement – The package Brand

Component 3, Digipak

Before we start to design our own Digipak we created a slideshow of information surrounding our artists target audience (psychographics and integrated advertising), similar artists and their branding, promotion, USP, research around our genre ( what colour scheme, images, font etc) would be best to use in our own work. Within this we also came up with our own mission statement to help promote our album and attract our target audience.

By doing some research before hand will help me and my group when it comes to designing my own digipak as we know now the target audience for our particular genre and how we can create a unique selling point which will then help to promote our artist. A catchy mission statement will also help attract audiences into listening to our album or to buy the CD.

Music video draft 3

Component 3, Music Video

What has changed:

  • Completed the video to the end with clips
  • Adjusted some of the lip syncing and transitions
  • Edited to the beat more
  • Shortened some of the clips
  • Scaled and re positioned some of the clips

Feedback from other students:

Improvements:

  • Add filters to make our clips more vibrant
  • Adjust more of the lip syncing
  • Make the end clip shorter
  • crop clips to cut out surroundings which are not needed and to focus on facial expressions etc.
  • Make the flashbacks more obvious they are looking back (use filter/ effect)

Specsavers Feedback

Component 3, Music Video

Specsavers came in to one of our media lessons and came around to each group and gave us constructive feedback on our music video. They told us that our fast paced editing worked really well and how we managed to edit our clips to the beat of the song and were told to continue with this. Another thing they said was that our video worked well because we used three different locations which were all separated evenly throughout the video. He also told us to make sure that we evenly space out the narrative and the performance.

Improvements:

  • Include some more transitions and effects
  • Apply filters
  • Adjust some of the lip syncing

Tips:

  • Slow motion could be used with the pan at the start
  • Use the de saturation tool when using the flashbacks
  • showed us the invert tool

These tips and improvements from Specsavers will now help us in improving our work.

Teacher Feedback- screencastify

Component 3, Music Video

This screencastify has helped me to understand what parts of my music video I can improve on and what is going well. From my groups feedback we have been told that some of our clips need to be more in sync and cut to improve and give a more clean finish. We were also told that a filter could be used to make the background of our performance clips brighter and stand out more. Match on action needs to be quicker. There has been a good use of location for the performance and narrative. Need to look into the colours and also the composition of the clips some could be more off centre done purposely and adjust framing of the shots. The singing in the narrative works well.

Improvements:

  •  Add a filter and make backgrounds brighter
  •  Adjust clip lengths and lip syncing
  •  Slow motion on some of the clips
  • off set some clips and adjust framing

Music video draft 2

Component 3, Music Video

Self Assessment of Draft 2:

I think our music video has been successful because we have used a tripod throughout so the majority of shots are steady unless used for affect. We have thought about composition but some shots could be edited and cropped in more to have full focus on the singer. We have used a variety of different shot angles and distances to make our video interesting and engaging, however with some of the shots we could purposely canter them etc. MES is displayed well in our music video with the performance giving this pop genre. We have thought about pace of edit and editing to the beat but could do this even further and more of it.

Improvement

  • Use some more close up shots by using the crop tool
  • Canter some shot
  • Add in effects which contribute to the overall feel of the video
  • Some of the lip syncing needs to be adjusted as they are slightly out
  • Transitions need to be included and sharpened
  • Edit to the beat to make our video fast paced and flow
