Chosen Video

Images from shoot 2

Reflection

Whilst filming shoot 2 it was clear we hadn’t planned it and thought it through to the best of our ability. After watching back the videos we got from it we realised this isn’t what we wanted the narrative to be as the scenes looked too awkward and unrealistic. Therefore,  we made the decision to re shoot our narrative in a different way.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

Mini Lip Sync Performance Video

Reflection

This is a short lip sync video that we made using a few of our performance shots. Although there are many areas to improve on, I am happy with how it is coming along. I think we have used the appropriate MES EN SCENE for our song and it’s genre. A variety of shots, locations and costumes have been used. The blue paint clips are good because it is something unusual that will grab your attention.

Targets for improvements

  • We need to ensure that the models lip syncing is it time with the actual song by editing it even more.
  • Include features such as transitions.
  • Make the video flow by editing in certain techniques.

Evaluation of Performance Shoots

Images of us shooting

Reflection

We did two separate shoots for performance. This is because we wanted to get some shots in the field with out model in a lovely white dress to portray her elegance and other shots in the black studio so that we can really focus on facial expressions and also do a paint scene showing that nothing will get under her skin. Personally, I think it went really well as we were doing the shots we were planning on doing but also doing extra shot ideas we were coming up with at the time.

What went well?

  • We managed to get a range of shots in different locations.
  • We filmed from various angles.
  • Everyone cooperated and agreed.
  • Our model was a very good performer who was up for anything.

What could’ve gone better?

  • It took us a while meaning we had to do it in two separate shoots.
  • Our model didn’t know all of the words as we had to change models last minute, meaning to recorded in sections.

Going forward, we will ensure our narrative shot relates to actions and facial expressions in the performance. We also need to make sure it all flows to look like a good music video.

Video Narrative Story/Shot Sheets

Narrative sheets

Reflection

These story sheets allow us to plan in advance our narrative. This saves us time when we go to shoot as we know exactly what we need to do.  It also means that we can looks at these sheets and ensure we have a wide variety of angles, shots and mes en scene. Not only does this task help us, it also helps our models as they know what they need to be portraying and what facial expressions they need to be making. Our narrative is going to show our young female artist being manipulated.

Narrative Development

Reflection

This is the plan for our narrative and structure. It shows what we are trying to portray and how we are panning on doing this. We are planning on showing expectation vs reality. To do this we will have the model being directed by a ‘manager’ and being told what to do and what to wear. She will feel more confident in her normal clothes compared to the clothes her wants her to wear to ‘look good’. Therefore, binary opposition of expectation vs reality.

Visual Shot List for Shoot 1

Visual shots

Reflection

We have looked at different shots we could use and how we could use these to portray aspects of our genre. There are a repertoire of elements conveyed by these techniques. Using cinematography is important for showing your star image and how that star image is represented. Doing this has also shown us shots and editing techniques that are conventional within media and how they are used.

Star Image

Mood board

Reflection

We have created this mood board so that we can see the style that is unique to this song. Therefore, we have various images and articles which portray the star image and how they need to come across. We need to make our star image represent the narrative. We can see the ordinary and extraordinary ways in which Sabrina Carpenter is conveys through media. From this, we can see the Paradox of the Star, hypothesized by Richard Dyer.

This task has helped us gain ideas for how we want our star image to look and what sort of narrative her look needs to portray. Therefore, we will make her wear an elegant dress and make up look. She needs to look well-dressed. The star image of Sabrina Carpenter is going to transfer onto our model by making her look elegant, confident, like a star, popular and wealthy. This will be done by the way we ask her to dress and the ways in which to acts/ poses.

Reflection

Our overall aim for our shoot is to film the performance side of our music video. As we only have our model (Ellie) for a small part of the day, we understand that we may not have time to film all we need. Therefore, we are prepared to use this same plan for a 2nd shoot on another day that suits everyone involved in order to film all in all of the performance.

Test Shoot

Practice music video

Reflection

We have made this music video coverage to try out different shots and how well they work with out style. The close- ups are very effective for the lip syncing. Doing this helped us come up with ideas of how we want our star image to look and how to make them look ordinary and extraordinary. We were pleased with the editing the music in time with the lip syncing especially as it was our first time. We do realize that there are many elements wrong with this video due top the lack of angles.  This is something that we have learnt from and will therefore improve for our actual music video. Also, we didn’t really like the colour filter we put on the video, however we wanted to explore premier pro and work out how to do it.
