Swede

This is our planning and final swede that we produced and filmed, we made this swede because we needed to get an idea of what planning, filming and producing a music video would be like for our Year 13 music videos. We got a small taste of what making a music video entails when we each got a small 30 second clip of the music video.

This is our planning of the part of the swede we did. In this part we had to do a lot of planning of the shots and different actors, props, make up that we were going to use.

This document is our Production Meeting Agenda where we thought of all the props, make up and actors we were going to use –

These are our shot lists where we thought of all the possible angles and shots we were going to shoot. We studied our section of the official music video very throughly and eventually figured everything out.

And these are the pictures of all the shots we did in a storyboard –

  • What lessons did you learn about planning and the use of Storyboards/Shot Lists and Production Meeting Agendas? Why are they important when out on shoot?
  • From planning and using Storyboards, Shot lists and Production Meeting Agendas I learnt that forward planning is the easiest and best way to make shooting go as quick as possible and have the least amount of mess ups on the day.
  • Targets: To continue making use of Storyboards, Shot lists and Production Meeting Agendas I will make sure to make them as detailed as possible and continue to refer back to them when shooting, to ensure that I have done everything correct.
  • What should the camera operator be doing whilst filming?
  • When filming, the camera operator should always be referring back to the shot lists and storyboard so they don’t go off track and are always on top of the filming.
  • Targets: To create detailed Shot lists and Storyboards so that the camera operator doesn’t have to think of all the shots their self and therefore it will be much quicker and make everything flow smoothly.
  • What lessons did you learn about directing people in front of the camera? What information do they need to know about their character / their performance style? How can the director get them to relax and have confidence in front of the camera in order to perform well?
  • From directing I have learnt that the performers need to be told what to do, from facial expressions to full acting. Due to this, we had to spend a bit of time telling all of the actors what to do. The director can get the actors to relax by making sure that they all know exactly what they are doing.
  • Targets: Continue creating detailed Storyboards so that the performers aren’t worried about what they are doing next and they know what they have to do to avoid and problems that may come about during the filming process.
  • What lessons did you learn about filming the performance for your production?
  • That it is better to film every angle you can so that we have the most footage we can get in the time allocated so that if one angle isn’t as good then there are others to use.
  • Targets: Try to find as many angles to film from as possible so that if there is one angle that isn’t up to standard then there are many other angles available to use.
  • What did you learn about editing and post-production?
  • I learnt that it is very important to edit to the beat so that the video and song make sense and don’t seem like they are bad together. It is also very important to edit so that the lip syncing looks like the performer is actually singing.
  • Targets: It is easy to get all the shots but the editing is time consuming and harder to do, therefore when editing we must make sure to pay close attention to each detail. Make sure that all editing is done  the best possible way and looks nice.
  • What did you discover about the use of conventional Mise-En-Scene for music videos?
  • I learnt that there is a lot of work to do with Mise-En-Scene and that it took us a few days to get all the props in so that we could see what worked best and was closest to the original video.
  • Targets: Ask everyone to bring in the different Mise-En-Scene that is needed so it is much easier to get and won’t take as long. Create a list of all the Mise-En-Scene needed so that there is nothing forgotten.

From this exercise I have realised how important it is to forward plan all of my projects so I know what shots to do and when to do them. Due to this forward planning my group and I were able to figure out when to do every shot, this came from analysing our section music video carefully.
