This is England Montage

This is a collection of 9 shots from the montage at the start of This is England. These shots show off what England was like at the time of the film being set (the 80’s).

The music in the background of the montage is ’54 – 46 was my number’

Genre: Reggae

The song is about a man getting arrested due to marijuana possesion. Reggae, as a genre, was heavily adopted by skinheads of the time which could be seen as a slight juxtaposition due to the genre having a backgrounf in black culture and skinheads being stereotypically extremely right-wing politically.

The songs timing along with the montage exemplifies some of the more sinister moments, such as someone throwing a molotov cocktail into a crowd or someone being blown up. It is also relevant as the film is set in the 80’s where genres such as reggae were growing in popularity.
