Above is our teacher’s screencastify of our first draft for our social media page.

Feedback she gave us includes:

  • Add a butterfly to the digipak
  • Include links for merch, promotions and discounts
  • Release tour dates and link them
  • Add more stories
  • Cross media convergence, her song could be used in a movie
  • Have countdown stories for album release
  • Include clips from the music video

Reflecting on my own work is an important part of improvement so I have filled out a guideline of some of the expectations our teachers expect us meet with our social media page. Here it is:

Focusing forward, in our next draft we are going to make sure to include some form of synergy or cross media convergence whether it is a collabaration with a company or Annabelle’s song being played as a soundtrack in a movie. We are also going to aim towards posting more stories so that the audience can get excited for the album release and have a story counting down the days left. We have also planned to have a photoshoot where Annabelle will be on a podcast, which will help to reinforce her interaction with fans.

Timeline and Marketing Ideas

Social media marketing is crucial when it comes to promoting an artist, especially those who are new and wanting to get their foot in the game, specifically guerilla and intergrated advertising. Above is our timeline that we created in order to keep in track with everything we want to post.

We have incorperated AIDA into our marketing timeline through the eigth post where we plan to post about our merch, promoting it. This will help us when we create our own instagram account because now we have inspiration and don’t have to struggle with ideas for our artist, making it less time consuming and confusing.

Audience Interaction with SMP- an Anaylsis

In order for us to create our own social media page it is important to understand all of the technical conventions that should be included. We gained an understanding of this by anaylising the features of La Roux’s instagram, as seen in the screen casifiy above.

This helped us to achieve audience engagement, which is one of the elements of AIDA (attention, interest, disire and call to action). Through looking at her page we saw the Uses & Gratification Theory by Bulmer and Katz and also recognised that the star has a lot of intergrated advertising. La Roux enjoys promoting her new music by posing in the car or even by the fire place.

Social Media Page Terminology

Before we go on to make a social media of our own, for our star it is important that we understand all of the different, technical conventions on a social media platform. I learnt about all of these by anaylsing Lady Gaga’s instagram page. I chose to look at hers in particular because she is a popular star from the electric genre that we are using. From studying her content I noticed that she has a big marketing campaign and also became aware that she has a specific target audience that she markets. Lada Gaga promotes products such as champagne and perfume, which I feel is targeted towards mature females because those are the types of consumers that would be most interested in these products.

Focusing forward, creating this slide has helped me to come up with ideas for my own social media page. For example, similarly to Lady Gaga’s page where she has highlights specifically for BLM, this has inspired me to consider creating a story highlight advocating for issues on our star’s social media page because I aim for our star to be woke.
