Creative Critical Reflection

Introduction

A brand is an idea of the company that the audience also believes in. An example of this is the mission statement. A coherent and values about the nature of our artist. Something the audience will embrace e.g family. The band hopes to show that “the small guy” can succeed and contribute to a world where these ideas are rejected as absurd owing to the peace and harmony that has been attained. Small minded ideas like being prejudiced, for example our stereotypical villains in our music video. Part of our star image has to be about authentic talent and for people who have tough lives. We are authentic people who try to make the people struggling a better place.

We can communicate this because the band represents a group of people who has to grow up in a rough time but in the end made it as a successful band. The narrative of the lead singer being a cost by what appear to be villains turn out to be the allies. They are accepted into the band.The band in the digipak are represented as a criminal underclass. Signifying a rough, tough, working class lifestyle. a sense of gangster lifestyle with the black and white filter and the red font. Also the name of the album being The New Abnormal which all communicate the meaning. Consistently on all products we have made a majority of group shots to make it seem like a strong group of friends where there is no leader and everyone is as important as each other.

Music Video

This is a band that is being willfully unconventional. For the album cover we have to represent a rebellious impression because we are walking away from the camera which goes against the typical conventions of the indie rock genre album covers, this is because their clothes tend to have dull looking colours in their outfits. Also, we used specific colours like red which has a encoded symbolic meaning of courage, danger and anger for the audience to decode. We added a grainy effect to make it look like a more serious and criminal-like album.

Digipak

Using MES to convey it to our audience, we portrayed the stars as belonging to the indie music genre. Overall, we wanted to create our digipak. This digipak aims to take social commentary and turn it into masterpieces by constantly adding a lighthearted and slightly comedic spin. While some people might disagree with their gloomy views on the state of the world as we know it, most people value and like the lyrics sincere sincerity.

A world where these ideas are rejected as absurd owing to the peace and harmony that has been attained. Moreover, we made an effort to incorporate Dyer’s paradox theory into the ordinary and extraordinary characteristics that a star image possesses. Things like posting a social media image of what the typical person would do, in addition to extraordinary things like a band playing at a concert.

Social Media Page

Social media has made it possible to engage with stars across the globe. We are aware that social media companies will do all in their power to maintain your interest in order to learn more about you and gather data about you that they can exploit and use to their advantage by selling you to marketers. They accomplish this by developing a model of you which is developing an algorithm that keeps your interests in mind.

I made sure that the SMP contained all of the components that Blumler and Katz considered which are crucial in any audience to a media piece for them to engage with each other. Their idea in short being the uses and gratifications theory as an approach to understanding why and how people actively seek out specific media to satisfy specific needs. This theory asserts that people are active media users who are motivated to select media to gratify specific needs.

Evaluation of shoot or graphic shoot

Reflection: These are the images that our group chose to create for our digipak with introspection. These particular images were picked because they are all imaginative and project an intriguing message for the viewer to interpret. Additionally, we are using these photos to maintain our branding goal of having our band deviate from the generic indie rock bands. This will enable us to stand out from the crowd and be distinctive, but because we represent the criminal underclass and a hardscrabble working class lifestyle, we are at the very least recognizable to the indie rock scene.

 

PMA and Risk Assessment for DP shoot



This is our risk assessment and PMA for the DP shot. In order to prepare for the shoot, we have gathered pictures and the names of the individuals who will be in charge of providing the necessary gear and clothing for our genre (indie rock). Other details, such the shoot’s date, time, and location, have been included. Finally, we have the contact information for our two media teachers in the unlikely event of an accident or potential issue.

Contact Sheet or Graphics / illustrations Drafts Ideas

This is a contact sheet that displays every photo we took during the shoot, including various perspectives and shot varieties like our mid shots, long shots, high angle and etc. A select selection of these will be used in the digipak creation process. In general, I believe the photo shoot went well given the variety and caliber of the images we were able to capture, this includes the fact that we had to use a phone instead of a camera due to some difficulties.

Digipak Draft 1

Reflection:

We used Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign to produce the front and back pages of a digipak for our music video. We are currently only utilizing the back page image as a temporary template. I believe the images we have amassed demonstrate a good mise-en-scene with regard to our genre’s conventions.

Improvements to be made:

– Using our own image rather than the one we borrowed
– Adding a stroke to the text
– Seeking a more appropriate font
– Possibly changing the front cover’s design to make it more eye-catching, perhaps with some form of colour contrast
– Considering a change to the name of the album

Final Draft

Reflection: This is our finished music video, our group thinks we could have made more improvements such as more enthusiasm in what we’re saying to make the lip syncing more visual to make it seem like we are actually singing. But as far as a few other things that goes, I think it was a success. We used the typical principles for a music video and had to incorporate them to create it. This is MES, camera, editing and sound techniques in order to make an aesthetically pleasing video.

Personally what I’ve learnt from this video, is that we should have had a wider variety of clips/shots for the music video. This is because we were struggling to find clips that weren’t similar to the clips that we had previously utilised. I’ve also learnt that editing a music video takes a lot longer than anticipated, you need the key fundamental skills as well as acknowledging the fact we need the narrative to make sense. The final thing I’ve learnt from this experience is that teamwork is very important. Without it, it can be very challenging to organise. It also allows collaborative problem solving which tends to lead to better outcomes. We are more likely to take calculated risks that lead to innovation. Working in a team for me encourages personal growth and gives you a responsibility to not let the team down.

 

Our Mission Statement – The Package Brand

We may accumulate the acquaintance required to advertise our digipak towards our audience by holding on to some other typical stars by first studying our audience as well as other stars within the genre. This will help in our digipak and social media page because the people who share the same psychographics can build a unity, this allows them to be part of a community that have similar opinions to each other which can give each other. This will lead to an increase in your brand visibility on the platform and fans can attract more potential customers to profiles.

Music Video Draft 4

Improvements:

First, we made our music videos transitions better. For instance, at minutes 2:09 – 2:13 we had the news text at the bottom dissolve when the scene with the TV zooms in to make it appear as though the music video is now taking place there rather than on the TV.

With no lyrics, we weren’t sure how to fill the space at minutes 1:50 – 2:00 in the video, so we added a split screen with five different clips that appear in time with the beat.

We shortened the longer clips by adding extra filler clips in order to avoid an awkward pause where there are no cuts or changes. By doing this, we not only increase the diversity of clips we use, but we also improve it to make it more aesthetically pleasing for the viewers.

I must first comprehend the typical practices used by the social media pages of comparable stars in order to create my own page for my star. In this instance, I looked at the Instagram account for the band “Foo Fighters.” Moreover fans will have more opportunities to interact with celebrities thanks to apps like Instagram, which will increase their propensity to buy the band’s goods. Also a theory from someone named Dyer states that there are two paradoxes and that a star is both ordinary and extraordinary. He also says that the star needs to be like us to be able to relate to the audience, but also offer something that we do not have, in order to deem them special enough to be stars. In this instance, Instagram posts can show the ordinary and extraordinary things about the star.
