Digipak Draft 1

After completing all our research and designing our digipak we have finally completed our first draft of both the front and back covers. We are pleased with them so far but still some improvements to be made.

Front cover:

For the front cover we took inspiration from another album cover when we were completing our look book. We however used our own colour scheme and textures for the background.

Back cover:

For the back cover we again took inspiration from another digipak while researching. We included the album name along with the list of songs and the record labels.

Self Assessment:

To say this is only our first draft and first time every making an album cover, it has gone really well in my opinion. It is closely replicated by our inspiration but added a personal twist to it to make it our own. Adobe Photoshop was used to cut out and decrease the saturation of the main images we took. Our photography worked out well in our photo shoot and were perfect for the way we wanted to use them. The use of both Photoshop and Camera work worked well together as it gave off the vulnerable and loss of identification we were looking for. The thought process of choosing out typeface was to make it simple but bold and recognizable. We chose 2 different fonts to feature in our digipak. The first was for the artists name of ‘Hendry’ which was a more simplistic and formal typeface whereas, the rest of the text was n a more bold and modern font to make it easy to read. Our choice for our album name ‘No Direction’ links well with the way we are portraying out star image as. The fact he has his eyes covered on the front cover suggests he has no sense of direction which is where we got our name from.

Targets for improvement:

  • To make all the fonts the same and so the artists name doesn’t get lost with the busy background that we have chosen. Possibly a plain colour behind the star images name.
  • To put the spines of the digipak into the correct place which is on the back page and make sure it still fits with our theme.
  • Create the two inside pages to complete all the four different pages. These need to be just as good as our front and back pages as they are just as important.
  • Add in the copyright on our back cover as this is a mandatory feature to include.
