Digipak Photoshoot Production Meeting Agenda + Risk Assessment

Below are my group’s Production Meeting Agenda and Risk Assessment for our next photoshoot. This will be to collect images for our digipak project. It is important to complete these documents before photoshoots as we were able to organise ourselves and we have planned exactly what we will be doing during the shoot, meaning we won’t waste anytime when on the real shoot. Risk assessments are vital when considering any potential dangers and reducing the chance of any injuries occuring.

DP Mockup

This is my drawn idea for what our digipak could look like:

Our chosen colour scheme:

We have now got a good plan of what direction we will go in during the production process of our digipak. We have looked at professional examples, colour schemes, graphic ideas, typical conventions, how we can make ours unique by deviating from conventions etc. We want to produce an eye-catching digipak that is of a high quality and has interestng graphics, colours, fonts, tracklist to name a few. It is essential that our star is represnted as extraordinary, and we will aim to achieve this through the use of mise-en-scene and editing techniques. We will us software such as InDesign and Photoshop to do this.

Digipak Conventions Analysis

I decided to look at a Miley Cyrus digipak cover as this is a professional example that I can study. I considered what typical conventions were used based on the genre as this is the same as my own groups (Pop Rock). I talked about conventions used such as bold fonts, colour schemes, posing, costume, layout etc. This was beneficial for me as I now have a greater understaning of what a conventional Pop Rock digipak looks like. This allows me to refer back to my annotations when designing my own digipak, meaning that I will be able to create my own version, whilst using similar aspects so that it is conventional, but I will include creative twists to make it different from the rest. It is important that a digipak is still conventional in some aspects though so that the buyer will be able to identify what genre it is, and therefore they can make an informed decision on whether or not they would like to buy it. If it is too unconventional, it may become misleading.

The Look Book – The Branding Package

This is my groups Digipak Look Book, it shows a variety of inspirations for our final Digipak. It shows the colour schemes, poses, designs, editing techniques, hairstyles, makeup, fonts, outfits etc that interest us. This will be a good starting pount for our project, as we have gained insight into what styles are relevant to our music genre.

Our Mission Statement – The Package Brand

In order to prepare for the digipak, my group prepared a slideshow which researches who our target audience is, their demographics/psychographics, what media they consume etc. We then planned how we want our audience to engage with our star/album (call to action). We also looked at the typical conventions of similar artists to our own e.g. Jessie J. We looked at her website and consudered the colour schemes, fonts, photography etc.

Next we considered what our USP (Unique Selling Point) would be, and decided that we want to emphasize the extraordinary of our star as it fits the genres of Pop/Rock. We also needed to come up with a mission statement. It summarised who our star is, what her music is like, teases the release of her new album etc.

This is our full mission statement:

“Violet is the newest pop rock princess of our generation. Her bold lyrics coupled with her catchy, energetic music is taking the industry by storm. Her new album ‘ASYLUM’ has captured the hearts of millions, and sets high standards for competing artists. Featuring her new hit song ‘Unexpected’ this album going to make history in the pop rock scene.”

Music Video Draft 4

This is the fourth draft of our music video:

In converstaion with our teacher and group, we have come up with improvements for the last draft of our music video, here is the summary:

  • Make the first shot of Eve singing more ‘face on’ so that the audience can connect straight away – breaks the fourth wall
  • Elongate certain shots
  • Add canted angles
  • Make tracking shots more off centre
  • Colour correct ECU of lips – maybe a filter
  • Shot of Eve against fence could be scaled in to cut out some greenery
  • Split screen in studio shots – to create variety
  • Mirror performacne shot so it appears Eve is back to back with herself
  • Cut end slightly earlier
  • Filter on kidknap scene

Music Video Draft 3

This is the third draft of our music video:

Peer Review comments
What has changed from Draft 2:
  • We have started to add colour correction to the flashbacks to make it more clear that they are seperate to the present chase – they are there to show how the girl is reflecting back on what she has been through
  • We have added a strobe effect on the shot of lewis walking up the slope – this is edited to the beat. We did this as the clip felt a litte too long and was slightly boring
  • Made good progession in adding/editing clips

Specsavers Feedback

In order to help us with the progression of our music videos, Specsavers came in to watch our videos and give us some constructive critism and tips which will improe the overall quality of our project.

Summary of feedback:

  • Good editing to the beat
  • Nice array of locations – 3 locations used is a good amount in music videos as it keep it interesting and covers all bases (performance and narrative) without being overwhelming/confusing for the viewer
  • Good variety of shots used e.g. extreme close ups, long shots, tracking shots etc.
  • Interesting narrative which work swith the chosen song

Targets for improvement:

  • Try  including some effects such as transitions
  • Play around with colour correction to brighten up shots
  • Some shots are over exposed so use colour correction to cancel this out
  • Try scaling in/out to see what compostion works best

We were also shown how to use Premier Pro to add in a strobe effect to our shots which we will look into during our next editing session.

Screencastify Teacher Feedback – Draft 2

Summary of feedback:
  • Good opening – make it slightly longer by slowing the clip of Eve looking at camera.
  • Good edit with flipping the two shots of Eve with the microphone
  • Nice range of locations
  • Make the shot of Eve even more off center to appear intentional
  • Brighten background in studio – make colours pop
  • Put a block colour on the extreme close up of lips
Targets for improvement:
  • Fix lip sync near start as it’s out of time
  • Match on action slightly too slow – make edit faster
  • Play with scale of positioning
  • Overall colour correction to make everthing brighter
  • More intimate shots wih movement through the frame in performance shots
