Draft 1
Here I have my first draft of my tour poster…
Upon evaluation of my first draft I have concluded some factors to help improve my work.
To start off my main image needs to be brightened in order to clearly see her face and pull the image concentration towards my main cover star rather the yellow mast head.
The cover line needs to have its font changed to match the other text. It can also be pulled slightly towards the right side.
The text on the left side of the page need to be smaller and pulled down in order to fit a pug and other factors in order to further update my magazine.
Lastly, There needs to be a barcode and issue date somewhere on the bottom of my magazine.
Language Analysis
In preperation of my double page spread I will start to create this week, I will be analysing an article of my choice off our Media Blog. The article I have chosen is just below and is number 5. on our blog (New Band).
Front Cover Analysis
Here on this google slide is front cover magazine which I have analysed. This includes Textual Analysis and an overall ‘Who are they?’
R&B is the soul for life. It accelerates the worlds transition for to a more cool collected place just for you. Understand that what we do it made just for you. Don’t you want to come join the best vibe?
Who is the audience likely to be?
The audience for my R&B magazine will appeal more to people in their 20’s to 30’s this is due to the specific content which I purposely put into it, it will also be more appealing to people in this age category as it is more more mature then pop or indie which you usually find teenagers putting themselves into.
Demographics and Psychographics of the audience-
Suitable for young adults who want something to relate to.
Non gender specific (any gender can enjoy).
more of a lifestyle then a hobby.
Gives off a healthy attitude.
Information about my Target Audience.
I am targeting my media towards this audience as it can be seen as a more mature content with the context of specific articles like lifestyle. Teenagers are just developing their lifestyle (not enough to know what lifestyle they’re after.) and middle aged people already eknowelege their lifestyle.
Production Meeting Agenda 2
On Tuesday the 8th of December me and my Media Studies class will be out of school for the day to take photos in various different locations for our double page spreads on our magazines. The photos taken will be useful for our double page spreads of even front covers depending on their quality.
Some ideal places for my magazine would be either at the Beau Sejour centre in one of the basketball courts or either Candy Gardens in the greenery and the olden architecture.
Some risks of this assignment would be that the image quality would not be up to a specific standard, and would have to re-shoot at school which not be ideal for my genre on behalf of my setting choice. In order for this not to happen I need to use the correct equipment and setting on the equipment.
Contact Sheet
On Monday, me and my Media Studies class ventured out to Beau Sejour park to have an all day photoshoot in preparation for our double page spreads. In order to have the best possible outcome for my double page spread I took over 100 photos to conduct the best. Here I have them on contact sheets for you to observe.
From these images you can acknowledge the different angles, positions back rounds and props that I used to get the possible outcome/quality photos…
Draft Feature Analysis
For my draft feature analysis I shall include an article development to show what key factors are required to make my magazine worth reading. I shall then prepare to create a review on something my star has participated in.
A hook:
Knowing who I’m writing for.
What is important for my audience.
Current trends.
How I am going to start.
Preparation For Writing An Article…
I will be conducting a review on behalf of an album which my star has participated in Basically producing a review on how production, selling point and general performance music wise in the album…
Mise En-Scene To Communicate Meaning
I’m A Media Prosumer
On the slide you can see the different media’s I consume on a regular basis. Especially social media such as Snapchat and TikTok.
One type of media I consume regularly is drama and fashion related. Like Keeping Up With the Kardashians to buying and selling clothes on Depop.
Then lastly I watch and listen to a lot of Breaking bad on Netflix or listen to Lily Allen on Spotify.
One aspect of Media Studies which I am intrigued about is Blumler and Katz. Which include;
Entertainment-This is usually TV based so factors like Netflix and shows on that like American Horror Story or Breaking Bad.
Personal Identity-My personal identity involves a lot of music, likewise, Arctic Monkeys or Lilly Allen.
Social Interaction-Social Medias like Snapchat, Instagram and Tiktok allow me to connect with all my peers online. Not only does this allow a sense of communication but a sense of belonging as you have the freedom to get in touch with people who live far away.
Education And Information-In one way Social Media is a platform which allows you to consume Education And Information, But the main source on Education and Information would be a news app, or listening to audiobooks.
Conventional Design Features
To demonstrate my understanding of Conventional Design Features I have annotated a film magazine to get to grips with what is included in the production process, as in key terms, What features are used in a magazine and how to correctly apply these features.
Why are these features important?
Masthead:
The masthead lets the consumers know what the product is called. Ideally you want the mast head to be clear and noticeable to grasp attention.
Main Cover Star:
Having a main cover star gives a sense of curiosity, not only this, it gives structure to the magazine it makes it look sleek and eventful. Yet gain it contracts an audience and makes the magazine easy on the eye.
Issue date, Price, Barcode:
A magazine requires this fundamental attribute. To sell an item such as a magazine it needs to have a barcode purely to sell the product on.
Captions:
Captions address what the magazine is about and features that add up to fit the magazine into its specific category.
Pug:
Pugs highlight some key factors within the magazine, Normally pugs are a snip of the inside of the magazine. But they can also can just be a review.
Inset:
Normally the inset involves the main cover stars name or acknowledges them into the magazine so you know who it is.
Plug:
Similar to the pug, the plug adds dimension to the key factors of a magazine, but instead its directed above the mast head
My Reflection
After researching and applying my knowledge I believe that I can now produce my own music magazine using Conventional Design Features. Annotating a magazine of my choice really helped my understand the importance of Conventional Design Features.
