MUSIC VIDEO FORM & CONVENTIONS

Introduction:

As a result of watching and analysing these different music videos, it had widened my knowledge and understanding of different conventions and features that are used to convey themes and meaning, for example, narrative only videos, full performance videos and  a combination of both which are narrative-performance videos, whereby props, setting, actions and costume are used to convey the narrative. If the video is amplified, it is where the narrative is inspired by the song, adding new elements to allow the narrative to compliment and coincide with the song and genre. Illustrative music videos, are when the song lyrics are illustrated through the video, where the narrative is either related to, or contains direct actions from the lyrics. And finally, if the music video is disjunctive, it means the narrative has no relation to song lyrics whatsoever. By going through the process of analysing these music videos, it has allowed me to understand that the star image has to be portrayed in a certain way, where by the audience will be attracted and engaged by what they see visually. This will also help me when creating my own music video.
