SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE DRAFT 2 FEEDBACK

My teacher has sent through a voice recording of my social media page with an analysis of successes and improvements. With this feedback I will be able to decode the information and act on what I have done well and what improvements need to be made in order to create a lucrative social media page for my Indie Rock artist. I have to establish a star image that represents my genre accurately.

Feedback from Teacher:

  • I have supported the ‘vegan’ train to ensure I don’t alienate fan who are in this category.
  • Successful plug for the RNLI which connotes his conscience and social responsibility towards society; this portrays him as ordinary and relatable.
  • Teasers of the album with a burning newspaper being held by Max.
  • I have included cross media convergence whereby Max will appear on BBC Radio 1.
  • There is a post which shows off live footage from a charity performance Max did. This is really important for both his and his fans personal identity, it provides an entertainment section for the audience.
  • I have posted a snippet from the music video – creates a sense of engagement.
  • By posting the back pane of the digipak, it provides a teaser the Max’s audience of what to expect and keeps them intrigued by what is yet to come; to show off his successes.
  • I have created a small selection of stories for my social media page. It shows his following and support for other artists in the music industry.
  • One of my stories is based on supporting the charity, RNLI and within this story I have included a video which is based on a local man who tells his story of one of the most dangerous rescues in the English channel.

Targets for Improvements:

  • Provide a post which shows off tour dates and locations for his fans.
  • Include and integrate synergy within my social media page, e.g. products, merchandise, promotions with a fashion company etc.
  • The front of the digipak, and the album release, (a post based on this is needed).
  • The whole music video needs to be uploaded to the social media page through a link.
  • Add a story to my social media page which allows the fans to socially interact with Max through Polls, Q&A’s etc. By doing this, it makes the fans think they are manipulating his life, they are apart of his life.
  • We need to know where he is going to be appearing in the near future.
  • More social interaction.
  • Where to get tickets, get the audience involved, where the album is available and post the final music video.

Below is a screenshot of my social media page which represents my artist. So far, I have uploaded 7 posts and I am planning on developing this page much further in order to successfully convey my star image and to provide a connection between my star and his audience.

I have integrated features and conventions of an Indie Rock Instagram page whilst creating my own, for example: basic colour schemes of black and white which sit nicely with my chosen digipak design, and short and punchy sentences advertising the posts which then allows my star to engage with his audience. Portraying my star in an ordinary yet extraordinary way through his work, promotions and performances – the ordinary aspect of Dyer’s theory allows him to engage with his fans / audience whilst developing his personal identity and star image.

Targets for improvement:

  • I would like to create physical copies of my digipak, by doing so I will be able to promote my star in music shops across the island.
  • I am going to create an audience interaction and engagement post which will involve setting up live chats, invitations to concerts / gigs etc. This will develop the connection between the star and his audience.
  • Next, my social media page is in need of ‘A Call to Action’ which makes a clear link of sale, (Spotify, iTunes), for both the music and for the audience to buy merchandise or concert tickets – this will promote my artists’ brand.
  • I need to set aside a post which puts forward the promotion of a live event. For example, a tour or a series of streamed (paid for) gigs / shows. Hopefully by doing so, this will boost my artists star image and advance revenue.
  • I would like to promote a collaboration between my artist and a product, for example, crocs, scented products (aftershave), and or clothing. This is a great form of integrated advertising and cross media convergence to lead to further engagement with Max’s audience.

SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE RESEARCH

This task has allowed me to broaden my knowledge of technical conventions situated within a Social Media Page. With this research, I am now able to apply what I have learnt when it comes to creating my own social media page using my awareness of my target audience, ways of advertising and promoting my artist, enhancing my social media platform and including a marketing campaign within my final social media page which will be based on my artist, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

TIMELINE AND MARKETING IDEAS

Before the production of my SMP began, it was essential for me to create a timeline of what my SMP would consist of, including when and what we wanted to post. Therefore, this guideline will assist me in providing the best possible SMP fit for my target audience. The timeline has to include posts that inform yet entertain the audience and with this, I need to take into consideration, the various media technicalities such as AIDA – this is a useful and efficient way to attract and allow the audience to engage with the SMP.  Since researching the consistency of a SMP, I have been able to broaden my knowledge of what to include, for example, Promotional Advertisement, Charity influencing, teasers on the exciting  new things the audience can look forward too and tour dates of future and upcoming events. By including all of these specific tools in my SMP, it will create posts that can provide the audience with social interactions and informative material. The personal identity of the star will be portrayed positively throughout creating a personal connection with his audience.

With the plan of my timeline and marketing strategy, I have chosen 4 ideas that will be used to allow me to engage with my target audience and promote the release of my music video and digipak. My list consists of a campaign, competition, collaboration and a BBC Radio 1 (live lounge). I have provided a detailed list below:

Campaign – inspired by Little Mix campaign

  • Max’s album / music video is a great way to provide a teaser into what is expected of his creative work in the music scene; followed by tour dates of when he is expected to be showing off his work.
  • The impact this will have on Max’s audience is significant as it will expand his fan base through engagement and empowering the audience to connect with him through his tours and concerts.

Competition – inspired by Phoebe Bridger’s campaign

  • Max will sign a selected amount of his albums, 20 in total, which will be distributed world wide at random rates. The individual (s) who are lucky enough to be welcomed by one of Max’s signed covers will be given the opportunity to  meet with Max one-on-one at his place of living; food and drink provided free of charge.
  • A rare and one in a lifetime competition like this will be extremely sought after, and the target audience will be encouraged to purchase his album with luck of winning the prize and there will be an increased excitement between the star and his consumers.

Collaboration – inspired by Coldplay’s campaign

  • With Max’s debut album edging even closer to release date, it was time to commemorate such a success. The star will be teaming up with 40AD records to create a website in which develops a campaign for the targeted fan base in the UK. The fans are invited to log into the website and stream the campaign playlist on Spotify.
  • Spotify streams will increase significantly, resulting in Max’s name being put onto the map at a higher status. This campaign encourages the audience to listen and stream music which reflected the brightening of that section on the map.
  • Following on from this, an engagement strategy will be used as a chance to win a selecting of Max’s merchandise upon providing their contact details helping garner a new database of fan information which is sure to come in handy in future campaigns.

BBC Radio 1 – inspired by Georgia’s campaign

  • This sort of cross media convergence is a great way to promote the star and his music at a very quick rate. There are many listeners across the country that tune in to BBC Radio 1 so this is a great opportunity to allow the star to publicize himself and show off his personal identity. This will allow the audience to engage and ultimately create a fan base for the up-coming star.
  • ‘Max’s Confessions’ through BBC Radio 1, allows his audience to connect with him on a personal level, listening into how he feels sets an example to those working on and within the music scene. Audience engagement will dramatically increase if the show goes well.

AUDIENCE INTERACTION WITH A SOCIAL MEDIA PAGE

Below I have inserted my version of an audience interaction with a social media page. This consisted of a screen castify of my analysis of the band, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I have analysed how I believe the audience interacts and engages with them and their star image. It has references to many media conventions and technical terms such as integrated advertising, star image etc. By doing this I am able to identify what a successful indie rock artists SMP looks like and how their conventions attract consumers.
