Conventional Design Feature of a Magazine

This is my analysis of the Conventional Designs Feature of a Magazine. I have labelled the key elements of my chosen magazine; the Masthead is the main title of the of the magazine which should grab customers attention – the big, bold writing filled with colour is attractive and eye catching. The small snippets as captions for the magazine provides a taster to the customer of what’s inside and what to expect. Valuable information such as price, barcode and issue date is stated clearly on the front of the magazine, all situated in the same place which enables the magazines audience to access the information more efficiently.

Magazine Moodboard

I have created a moodboard on Pinterest for my chosen genre of Indie/RnB. I have included numerous varied images that connote my chosen genre of Indie/RnB.  For example front covers designs, typefaces, images/shoots, album covers etc. When creating my own magazine  I will use my moodboard to inspire me when in doubt of anything when producing it. My magazine must include the appropriate conventions so that my Indie/RnB magazine is accepted by my selected target audience. The inventiveness from this moodboard I have created will allow me to represent my magazine in a way that meets all of my target audience’s expectations and requirements.

my moodboard is a good portrayal of my chosen genre, Indie/RnB. The images and artist covers I have chosen will help me significantly in the future when creating my own magazine because I have now learnt the denotations which have to be included and aim for when producing my magazine. For example, simple design layout, unadorned facial expressions and bright but also subtle colours. All of these segments help to represent the Indie/RnB culture connotations creating an aesthetic feel to my magazine. I believe if I represent my magazine in the same way as professionally designed like ones included in my mood board, my magazine will be successful and also link with my target audience.

MY AUDIENCE PROFILE AND RESEARCH

RESEARCH

I have researched my audience profile with success. Following the blog, I used the website ‘yougov.co.uk’ which was very helpful when finding suited statistics relating to my magazine. This allowed me to find out about what sort of artists and bands the fans of my chosen music genre were into;  indie musicians also feature in my demographic which allows me to gain an idea of who the ‘typical’ target audience is. This resulted in me knowing who would be best to feature in my magazine to entertain and engage the audience. I now understand their likes and dislikes after using ‘yougov.co.uk’ as a way of researching this information.

ARCTIC MONKEYS

Whilst carrying out my research, I found out that Arctic Monkeys are more popular with women rather than men.  The most popular age range for the Arctic Monkeys is 30-35.

Above is what fans of Arctic Monkeys like and search for online.

NIRVANA

Whilst carrying out my research, I found out that Nirvana are slightly more popular with men, women not far behind.

Above is what fans of Nirvana like and search for online.

RECORD DATING

In addition to the research, I had to create a dating profile for my target audience. I have included many features of what a real life dating website looks like. I have created my dating profile through the filter of music which hopefully helps describe my targeted audience well.
