Foley sound is important to a film as it adds a sense of place and creates atmosphere. This helps create the diegesis of the film and makes the world that is created more believable to the audience because of the extra sounds. If you watched a film without diegetic sound it would seem a bit off as your brain would realise a lot of sounds are missing and it would become less believable to you.
