Shoot Evaluation – Performance

We shot the performance part of our video and this post is an evaluation of how that went and what I will do differently in future shoots

High points to the day

  • Our performers were enthusiastic and did what we directed them to do, this meant for more interesting shots.
  • We used two DSLR cameras these created good quality shots and having two meant that we could film two shots at the same time, overall saving time and allowing us to get more filming in the time we had. We had one on a tripod and the other on a steady cam this meant that we had a variety of camera angles and distances as well as many movement shots (which fit with our genre).
  • Me and Leonie arrived earlier than our performers in order to setup for the shoot and plan our shots in the setting, this meant that when they arrived as much time was spent filming as possible.
  • As a thank you for our performers we brought chocolates and pizza and although this meant we were there for longer it kept the performers excited and interested throughout.
  • Our lead singer also arrived earlier which allowed us to spend time getting the close ups with her and meant that we got more shots of the lead singer which is important for our video.

Targets for future filming

  • Without realizing I think we changed the lighting as the hatch was closed during the shoot meaning we there was more work to do in the edit with changing brightness, next time we will make sure not to change it.
  • One of our performers doesn’t go to our school so it was a bit difficult to organise things with him in future I will only have performers that I am around often so can easily organise things.
  • One of the initial close ups of our lead singer was blurry which we didn’t notice until after filming. Because of this we will need to re-shoot with her in order to have enough close-ups.
  • In some of the movement shots some objects not for music video got in shot, we will in future make sure that the whole area around is clear.
