Shoot 1 Reflection (perfromance)

I think that our first shoot (Performance) went very well. We managed to get all the shots that we needed and many more. We used our time effectively and managed to film in two locations and we got many close ups and long shots on both of the band members and other things like the instruments. Although some of our shots were, unfortunately, out of focus.

We went to L’Eree beach and filmed next to a bunker. We used a drum kit that Mrs Cobb delivered to us and we used a guitar, amp and set it all up in front of a bunker. We also got some landscape shots and we filmed on top of bunker as well as in front of it.

What went well

  • We managed to get a great number of shots
  • We managed to film it all in good time
  • We managed to get a good amount of close ups and other shots
  • We managed to film ourselves performing several times in different locations to add vareity.

What we need to do next time

  • Not all of our shots were in focus so we need to make sure they are
  • We should have gotten a few more full band/ long shots.

Narrative PMA

This is our Product Meeting Agenda.

Our aims for the shoot is to reflect the song and the narrative that we want to show.  This has all the details about the shoot that we need to the point that if we couldn’t film it, someone else could. It has example pictures of costumes and props and it details who is responsible for what equipment, props and costumes.

Music Video Draft 1, Rough Draft

This is our first and rough draft of our music video.

Self Assessment

  • The lip syncing is done well
  • the instruments are synced well
  • We have a good variety of shots and we have a good number of spare shots
  • The MES is done well and reflects the genre well.

Targets for improvement

  • We need to keep continuity better.
  • We should have used some of the other shots that are in another location
  • We still have lots of shots on Ben’s Iphone that we need to get on the PC

After this shoot we can use the shots we did and can use some of the editing we used in this video for our full music video in the future.

Star Image – The Performer

This will help us create the MES needed to accurately portray our genre.  It has images showing how ordinary he is and extraordinary to contrast.  This is called the Paradox Of The Star and this theory was created by Richard Dyer. It also helps us as we now now what the representation of our artist should be, because of this, it will help us create our project meeting agenda as it will help us design our props and costumes. It will also help us create a star image that will appeal to the target audience of our genre and the Metanarrative of our video. We want out star to look like ‘the boy next door’. He should look relaxed and average as that is conventional of the genre. This will help us create costumes for our future video and PMAs. It also helps us understand the genre and the people who are involved with it.

Final Lip Sync

This is the final edit of our Lip Sync.

This is our test lip sync. We filmed this over two days and it took two lessons to edit it.  This helps us get some practice in and understand how to film the star in a music video,  using a variety of shots and transitions including cut to close ups and transitions, typically dissolves to show a pass in time and space.  We created a montage that made the star look extraordinary and ordinary, creating the Paradox Of The Star, the hteory created by Richard Dyer.  We edited to the beat and tried to make the star image look good but as I was in my shcool uniform I don’t think we did this very well. This will help us when we film our performance as we will know what to film and what the important shots are when we film.  We forgot to cut to close up in the main part of video which hindered the coverage and impact it has.

Pitch and Feedback

The Feedback we received  helped up to come up and change some of our ideas to help us make a better video. We spoke about how we will create an accurate star image and narrative that fits the genre. We also spoke about the narrative structure of our video and how we can get a variety of different angles to make an interesting narrative and performance sequence.

Targets

  1.  to use various different locations
  2. to have an actual band
  3. to be able to show the loneliness of the main character well
  4. to use abstract ways of creating a sense of loneliness and friendship
  5. to make sure we all take part in the filming process
  6.  to make sure we have a variety of narrative types
