Test Shoots

This is our first test shoot, on this shoot we practiced with some camera angles that we will use in our music video. We took turns filming while Will acted as the subject, we then downloaded our clips onto premiere pro and edited them to our music. I think this test shoot went well, the angles we used were clear and we all worked together very well, our editing was also up to standard.

This test shoot would be even better if:

  • We used more variety of angles and shots and played around with other camera techniques e.g composition.
  • Added some more acting/narrative
  • Shots of surroundings
  • Put more detail/attention into setting (phone and books shown on table- distracting)

Pitch+Feedback

Shown above is out pitch for our music video, the slideshow shows the song we are using, the underlying themes, the narrative and performance, and Mis-en-scene. During our spoken pitch to our teacher we received 6 positive comments and 6 feedback comments. These included:

Positive

  • Interesting concept and narrative
  • Good use of setting
  • Narrative and performance are combined
  • Will show good editing skills
  • Well known band, but a not so much a popular song

Targets

  • Another actor or two could add more to the narrative
  • Need more detail on props that will be used
  • Mis-en-scene needs to be worked on more
  • Finalize choice of set
  • Good close up shots of the toys are needed to keep interest
  • Decide on costume design

From this feedback we will take the targets into consideration and address them, after reflecting we will finalize choice of set, costume design and mis-en-scene. We also need to think about developing the narrative more whether that be with adding a new actor or with detail such as props and ideas of angles. This will help when coming to filming and developing our music video.

Visual Shot List for Shoot 1 (Performance)

Made with Padlet

In order to collect ideas of camera techniques/shots to use for our music video we watched music videos from our genre and gathered conventional shot types and techniques, this will help when coming to completing a practice shot test and when recording our music video because we will ensure to convey meaning with certain shot types and be organized in completing this.

Visual Shot List Shoot 1

Made with Padlet
Here is a visual shot list for our first shoot, on this padlet we have included the shots which are conventional to our genre and that we would like to use in our Music Video. All these shots help to tell the narrative and help represent key themes of the song. This will help use when moving forward and filming our first shoot as we will have a clear idea of what shots to use and what they can portray to our audience.

Describe your Audience

In this task I decided to research my audience of my chosen genre (Britpop) to get an idea of my audiences demographics and psychographics.  I found out that my audience are equally popular with men and women, and popular with millenials. My target audience are mostly British and ages 23-38 therefore they love a pint, like to smoke rolled cigarettes, are active on social media and own iPhones, and often dress in vintage sports brands. This will help when creating my music video as I will know how to interest and what to include to fulfill the needs of my audience and allow them to relate to my star in the video, and make sure they decode the media text.

Final Song Choice

For our final song choice we chose ‘D’yer Wanna Be a Spaceman’ by Oasis, we chose this song because the song has a evident narrative of growing up and moving on, therefore we can use this narrative to inspire our music video, the narrative is relatable and will connect instantly with our audience.

Perfect group production

Here is my group agreement and portfolio which lists our strengths and weaknesses as a group and what we will need to work on to ensure we work the best we can towards our music video to make it as sucessful as we can. Moving forward I will work on my weaknesses and do the best I can to ensure the production is done to the best of my ability.

Initial song ideas for a video- Mini Pitch

In order to gather ideas for what song to use for our music video, we all individually explored a song which was from our chosen genre. I chose the song ‘Champagne Supernova’ by Oasis, I believed this song had a clear narrative as I analysed the lyrics. I have attatched a word cloud which outlines the key themes and ideas of the song to help me go forward with my mini pitch to my group. Shown below is the song itself and lyrics, and below that is my wordcloud.

[Verse 1]
How many special people change?
How many lives are living strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?

[Pre-Chorus]
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?

[Chorus]
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky

[Verse 2]
Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye

[Pre-Chorus]
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannonball
Where were you while we were getting high?

[Chorus]
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

[Bridge]
‘Cause people believe
That they’re gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we live and die
The world’s still spinning ’round, we don’t know why
Why? Why? Why? Why?
