Media exists for many different reasons. By creating this collage, I found that most of the media I consume is purely for entertainment, except social media which I also use for social interaction and occasionally information. Same goes for Instagram, which I did not put in my collage.

I found it interesting how important music is to me, as since I just listen while on the bus or whenever I have nothing else to do I tend listen for hours each day without really realising it.

Very little of my media is for information, except for the information I accidentally absorb from people’s stories and Instagram posts. I tend to just use social media for communication with friends, and very rarely post on Instagram as I do not care much for showing other people every little detail of my life.

I also watch a lot of Netflix and Prime Video series. I tend to focus on shows with deep and engaging stories, though I still cannot escape the absurd humor of shows like South Park and Bojack Horseman (this is helped by Bojack’s deceivingly deep story and world).

After looking at the music I listen to, it is fairly obvious to me that my music magazine will be something to do with metal, probably focusing on the bands that I have put in the collage as they are the ones I tend to listen to the most. Looking at the different aspects of media, I will also need to make it informative with news about bands and the genre, entertaining for the reader, and give opinions for the reader to reinforce their personal identity. I should also find a way to incorporate social interaction in the magazine.

I have always been interested in media. In the past I attempted (poorly) to make YouTube videos, and in my spare time I have made a clothing “brand” which a few of my friends have bought. I have always been quite a creative person and most of my skills are creative, although translating this into a product of my ideas has sometimes proved challenging.

Other skills I have include:

• IT skills (I’m fairly good with computer stuff)
• Communication (I am good at getting my ideas across to people while also being able to listen to others)

Over the next two years, I hope to improve my photo taking and editing (which should be helped by the fact that I am also doing A-Level Photography), as well as design skills. I also want to improve my organisational skills as they have often been lacking in the past, this is also a transferable skill which will be useful no matter what I do later on.
