So… I’m ready to makes some media!

when I begin to make some media I need to take into account various things such as, my target audience and the demographics. I must ensure my magazine appeals to them and their interests.

I also need to ensure when creating my magazine that I use the MES method. I need to make sure that Mise En Scene is found in my R&B genre. In addition I need to include a good colour scheme into my magazine and focus on the basic colours that magazines like mine generally use to engage my target audience.

when creating my magazine I need to include Blumler and Katz theory for example..

  • Entertainment
  • Info and Education
  • Personal identity
  • Escapism
  • Social attraction

all these key things are what brings my magazine together and makes it a appealing and a interesting design of media for my target audience to read.

I will also need to add AIDA this is..

  • Attract audience
  • Engage interests
  • Create desire
  • Call to action

when creating my magazine I will add all these important aspects to ensure I engage my reader and provide them what they are looking for in my R&B magazine.

Audience Profiling

This is a magazine cover for Q i have annotated it by identifying who the audience are and who would read it. 

I believe that they have made the cover photo aesthetically pleasing and well presented. They used the main things that people notice when looking at a magazine which includes the masthead, main cover line/star, plug, pug, captions, and so on. 

Their audience is mainly millennials or generation X , the people  that generally read this type of magazine are well educated people that have spear time to read and listen to different types of music, they are also a mid age which isn’t exactly overly old. I can notice that Q magazine use a very little amount of colour for example there main colours are red,white,black and a little yellow. I think that they’ve done well in making the contrast of these colours fit into the theme of the magazine. They’ve made sure that there is enough information on the front cover and it looks as if it’s going to entice the audience to read it. I believe that because it’s got a very busy front cover it will gain more people’s opportunities to buy it.

In this exact poster I believe that it’s aimed at young teenage girls. The colours represent a very stereo typical image for a young girl, for example the pink blush effect and the purple flowers show a very elegant appearance, I also think the image of Ariana shows her natural beauty and shows the sweet side. The fact that the background is light and sugary states how girly this is.

I personally think that this poster really relates to teenage girls as it creates a really girly theme for example the pink represents sweetness and innocence. The flowers create prettiness, and the fact that she is positioned centre shows that she is centre of attention and she can relate to girls with her make up in a stereotypical view.

This is my version of a magazine from NME.

To do this we used basic tools from in design and used them to create our own example of a NME cover. I learnt how to create different fonts according to the background for example Florence was my background and I had to choose a suitable colour to make sure my text didn’t get lost into the image. I also learnt how to enlarge text and make it stand out by outlining it with a different colour. In addition I also learnt how to flip an image to face a different direction. I found it easier to find a perfect font by changing the style,the two main styles are serif and sans serif. When it came to doing my magazine cover I found it easier using quite simple colours as the back image was filled with quite a bit of colour. The particular tools I used were the direct selection tool, gradient feather tool, fill and drag and various others. Whilst making my magazine cover i found that magazine covers only have two colours plus black and white, so I made sure I added that same idea to mine.

Media is used for many different things. for example entertainment, social interaction, personal identity and information, these 4 gratifications come into Bumler and Katz. As an example ..

  • entertainment- You tube or Spotify
  • social interaction- Snap chat or Facebook
  • personal identity- Instagram posts or famous people
  • information- BBC news

Blumler and katz theory states that we use social media in many different ways, it states that we use the media to our satisfactory needs for example we use Netflix to entertain ourselves and watch different types of movies such as romance to comedies. We also use the media to identify ourselves for instance watching models on Instagram and looking at their fashion. We use it for information. blumler and katz link all media into how we use it and what we use it for.

 

The media that I use fits into the 4 sections of the Blumler and Katz theory, for example Call the midwife fits into the entertainment, social interaction and personal identity as I can talk about it with friends about the episode and watch it for entertainment.

Throughout my media studies lessons I wish to learn more in technology and how it’s used in the media I use on a day to day bases. I personally really like music videos and recognizing the different stories behind them. I also really enjoy using social media to take photos, i hope to explore more into that and learn how to take photos on a secondary professional level. In addition I also want to learn about how to create a magazine front cover as i’m interested in the creative photography, colour and design. Lastly I wish to explore more in detail the different aspects of media such as music, movie and magazine design. 

I generally base my media on Instagram, snapchat,pinterest etc.. However I use them to socialise with my friends as whole, i don’t particularly use them to be creative and imaginative and that’s something i’m really interested in. I also use media to take photos and upload them on various apps. I use media to listen to music also. 

I believe media studies will help me learn various skills for the future for example, team work.. we have to do a lot of working together in groups to expand our knowledge and information about a certain topic, media will also help me learn independently.
