Shoot 2 Risk Assessment

This is our risk assessment for shoot 2!

For this task we had to analyse the potential risks for our next shoot. As you can see, in this sheet we identified the potential risks for our shoot and how we intend to work around them to remain safe.

This task was very useful as it is important to remain safe in these shoots as to not endanger ourselves or the equipment we have borrowed. This is good practice for the real media world as risk assessments are vital if you actually want to shoot anything.

Shoot 1 Reflection

Here are some photos from our first Music video shoot.

Overall I think our first shoot went fairly well. We got a variety of shoots and used creative ideas such as shadows and interesting lighting. We decided to move the drum kit so that we could obtain hallway shots which was a good decision as it highly diversified our shots. In this shoot I;

Operated the camera and adjusted settings, made suggestions for potential changes and ideas and I set up the camera and altered the background.

Positives

  • Broad range of shots
  • Successful and well timed instrumentation (Band)
  • Good lip syncing
  • Good background and setting

What could we do better?

  • More transitions such as pans
  • More vocal shots
  • Better performance (More enthusiasm)
  • Avoid reflecting light and reflection through guitar pick guard

Overall our first shoot went pretty well but improvements can definitely be made. I think what we have is easily passable but we will have to add more features such as transitions into our narrative shoot. To do better next time I need to be more organized and prepared and I have to consider which angles and shots I want to use before my actual shoot.

Star Image – The Performer

This is a star image moodboard for the band catfish and the battlement. As they are the original artists of the song we are using in our music video this moodpboard shows media surrounding them and their image and how they are portrayed.

This task was useful as we now have a deeper understanding of the band, their star image and how they are portrayed. The bands portrayal plays a huge part in their audience engagement as the audience is tied to the band image they have been manipulated to see. This task has helped me to further analyse how the band dresses and acts so I can recreate these ideas in our music video. The paradox of the star theory can be applied here as we see catfish and the bottlemen being portrayed as both extraordinary and ordinary. Through their social media we see a more human side but also an extraordinary side as we see there normal lives and their performing lives. We will apply this moodpboard in our own work as it is showing us the bands mannerisms and outlooks and how we need to convey our performers in order to replicate the band and the genres conventions.

Pitch + Feedback

This is our pitch for our music video.

From this pitch we now have a clear outline of what exactly we need to do and want to do. We have discussed with Miss what needs to be done and have concluded on the following.

6 good ideas:

  • Narrative- Our narrative idea is a good backbone to work on with a decent theme.
  • Locations – Our locations are ambitious and interesting
  • Clothing – Our clothing is relevant and similar to the original band
  • Angle ideas – We have some fun shots we want to try
  • Full band ideas – Our full band aspect works well in our genre

6 improvements/Targets

  • More adventurous Mise-En-Scene – Our costumes are good and relevant to the genre but they can be more eye catching and extreme to convey the tone of the song
  • More cohesive narrative idea – Our narrative idea is good but needs more work to be more illustrative to the songs themes.
  • Creative shots and angles – We need to ensure that lots of our shots are interesting and use adequate transitions and more to fully convey the genre and star image to our consumers.
  • Different lighting – We can use different lighting ideas to increase the atmospheric feel of the video and use things like red lights to convey the mood and themes of the lyrics.
  • Theme within narrative – We need to remain cohesive between our narrative and performance to some degree.

Overall this pitch was very useful as we have laid out what we want to do and have received adequate feedback which will help us improve our work. This pitch was also good as we now have a slideshow with all our ideas mapped out which will help us keep track of our roster of ideas. If we implement these improvements we can appeal more to our audience and we can stay conventional to our genre. These improvements will also give the video a rewatch able quality and add layers to our video.

Production Meeting Agenda For Shoot 1

Here is our production meeting agenda for our first shoot.

This task was very useful as now we have fully established who is responsible for what and what needs to be provided. By knowing my own responsibilities and the responsibilities of the others we know who is at fault if something is forgotten. This is very crucial as without it we would have a hard time figuring what we need and who needs to bring it.

This task is good for planning skills and actually helps me visualise my video better as I look at all the aspects and details showing what our shoot will look like.

Risk Assessment For Shoot 1

This is our risk assessment sheet for our first shoot!

This post was very useful as it has highlighted the possible dangers there could be during filming and this ensures that we reduce all risks and are safer and more prepared. This is also good as if something goes wrong we should know who is responsible.

Risk assessments are very important for the creation of my magazine and this reflects real life scenarios where these risk assessments are crucial if  you want to actually film anything.

Pitch + Feedback

This is our pitch to our teacher on our ideas and ambitions for our music video. We presented this to our teacher and received feedback on our ideas and suggestions to further improve our work. Our pitch consisted of how we envisioned MES, Shot ideas and locations. We also added features of our impressions of the song through synesthesia.

Here is our Slideshow!

This is a video of our pitch to our teacher, In this we showed our teacher our ideas for performance, narrative, setting and MES. We showed her our thoughts for the song and themes and ideas for the video. We explained our visions for the video and how we are going to make our star seem extraordinary and ordinary and how we will split focus 50/50 from performance to narrative. We analyzed the features of conventional indie rock and based a lot of our ideas of that so that we can stay conventional and remain relevant to our genre.

Visual Shot List For Shoot 1 (Performance)

This is our shot list Padlet!

This Padlet is to help me understand how I’m going to film my performance for my genre and how I will convey my star as extraordinary and ordinary, how I will use different shots which will be conventional of my genre and how I can use a repertoire of elements to accurately portray my genre and star. By analysing different uses of cinematography and editing within other videos from the genre I can work out what will work best for my video and has helped me visualise how my own video will look.

Made with Padlet

This post was very useful as it has made me more aware of the conventions used in indie rock music videos.  Analysing the different features and how they convey the performers in an extraordinary and ordinary light has helped me to think of ideas which I can use for my own video.

Perfect Production Group

This is our Group agreement document.

In this task we had to analyse the strengths and weaknesses off our group and figure out how we are going to tackle potential troubles and how we intend to share responsibility.

This task was very useful as now I have a visual sheet describing our teams strengths and weaknesses and our goals to be successful. By doing this I can have a better idea of our plan and it is clear to each member how we intend to share work load and responsibility. By knowing exactly what I am responsible for I can easily see what I need to do and avoid a clash via poor communication or unclear roles. This task relates well to transferable skills of organisation and planning and will be very useful for the creation of my music video.

Permission From Artist

In this photo you can see that I have messaged Catfish and The Bottlemen asking for permission to use their song in my music video.

This is important as due to copyright and respecting the rights of the artist. Had I not messaged them I risk getting sued or getting our video taken down so this is important to do.

This task was important as it shows how necessary it is to ask permission and how important it is to ask permission.
