Lip Syncing Exercise

Signified above is my visual shot list that we created in a group of three. For this we chose a music video and we had to analyse it and describe the particular shots used and how we will impliment them in our lip syncing video. To do this I had to analyse the star image (Dyer) and see if they are wearing extraordinary or odinary clothing conveyed through the Mise En Scene. The song we chose was Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne. We chose this song because we liked the particualar shots used in the music video. For this we analysed the particular shots used by looking at the three main shot types close up, mid shot, and long shot. There was also tracking shots, circular pan, and rule of thirds which were all used to create meaning. Analysing this has allowed us to successfully incorperate the particular shots used into our lip syncing video.

To do this we played the music video in the background and made sure all the lip syncing was in sync while we were filming. We made sure to impliment a variety of shots like the three main shot types,  circular shots, and tracking shots to create meaning. We did this so we would have a lot of choice when editing our music video on which shots we could use and what would work best.

This is my lip syncing video I edited on adobe premiere pro:

What went well:

  • I felt the camera angles we used worked well for the lip syncing video as it helped create a narative.
  • The lip syncing matched with the lyrics in the song.
  • The different types of shots used helped keep it engaging.

What I could do better:

  • We mostly shot in the same place so we should’ve had more variety of the shot locations we filmed at.
  • I felt like some transitions from each clip didn’t work as well as I wanted.
  • Consider Mise-En-Scene which will help create a narrative for the audience.

Reflection:

I felt I was able to successfully edit the music video by myself using premiere pro. Doing this has allowed me to have a better understanding on how to use premiere pro and this will help me when editing my final music video. I’ve also learnt how to use particular shot types to help create meaning.

Video For Meaning

When designing a music video one of the main crucial elements is having good camera work, because this can be used to create meaning and signify a narrative. For this I practiced using a camera,  I also worked in a small group and filmed around the school using various angles and techniques. For this I chose the particular shots I thought worked well and had to edit it into roughly a 20 second music video.

When filming I used an iphone, this made a nice quality image because I ensured to adjust my settings to the highest quality. I also made sure all my shots were in landscape. I watched  a video which helped give me useful tips on how to film a music video. From the video I learnt that you can use a wheelchair for a tracking shot, I made sure to impliment this in my music video.

For my music video I also had to make sure to impliment the three main shots, a long shot, a mid shot and a close up shot. Within my music video I also made sure to include tracking shots, jump cuts and eyeline matches.

Below is my final video:

What went well:

  • I felt the jump cut worked well because it was in synch with the beats of the song.
  • The tracking shot I thought worked well because it conveyed movement within the clip, which helped keep it interesting.
  • I made it so I’m walking towards the camera at the start and at the end I walking away from the camera which I thought worked well.

What I could do better:

  • Add special effects and more edits to help keep it engaging.
  • During the tracking shot I was to close to the camera, which made me slightly out of frame.
  • Within some of the shots there was a bit of camera movement  this is because we didn’t have a tripod to keep it steady.

Reflection:

Doing this has allowed me to improve my camerawork when designing a music video, and to impliment some key features within it to help keep it engaging. I also now know how to use premier pro effectively when editing. I have also learnt how to use different types of shots, which can be used to help create meaning. For instance a tracking shot or a jump cut which is used to help keep the video interesting.
