My Tour Poster

Reflection:

This is my moodboard of jazz tour posters. I did this to give me ideas on how I should structure my poster, using particular font sizes and bright colours. For instance in the jazz tour posters you can see how the use of bright colours fits the theme of jazz and captivates the audience. They also use large font sizes to make it stand out which make thier audience want to read on and also curley font which gives a more old-fashioned, classy feel which is in keeping with the era of jazz. Also it is common to see in tour posters a man typically playing the saxophone while striking a pose, which is a stereoptypical jazz image. This connotes how enthusiastic they are when playing the instruments which exemplfies how fun and excitng the tour will be, making their target audience more inclined to go to the tour.

Feedback on the Brief
  • Does it fulfil the brief as stated in the blog?
Your comment: yes it does fulfil the brief
Feedback on colours:
  • Has the design used a consistent colour scheme?
  • Is there a relationship between the colours in the image and the colour of the graphic design?
  • Do the colours seem typical of the genre?
Your comment: yes my design does use a consistant colour scheme which is signified with bright colours as that is typically found in jazz for instance with the orange and yellow to make it stand out. Both the graphic design and the image both use bright colours. Jazz is typically signified with bright colours which is why I used it in my tour poster.

Feedback on typeface:
  • Is all the text legible?
  • Is the typeface well chosen and does it suit the apparent genre?
  • How many typefaces are used in the design?
Your comment: I made sure the text was legible so I didn’t keep the font the same colour. This is because if I used a similar colour font I was using for my background it would not stand out as well. I changed it to white to make it more legible and to have a high contrast making it eye catching. I used mainly 2 typefaces, one which was a large bold type to grab the attention and one which was more curley which I felt was in keeping with the jazz theme with a more old -fashioned and classy look to it.
Feedback on integration of image and graphics
  • Does the text wrap around the image well?
  • Does the eyeline of the model focus attention?
Your comment: yes it does wrap around the image well, because all my text is in a good position, which isn’t covering too much of the main attraction on the poster. The eyeline of the model doesn’t really focus attention.
Feedback on image
  • Does the costume reflect a particular genre?
  • Is the body language of the model appropriate?
Your comment: yes my costume fits the genre of jazz because that is what jazz muscians would typically wear. The body language is also appropriate for the theme of jazz because it connotes how enthusiastic he is about playing the saxiphone which will make the target audience excited to watch him live.
Feedback on copy
  • Do the words on the page prompt a sense of desire?
  • Is there a clear call and a route to action? (AIDA)
Your comment: yes it makes my target audience want to go to the world tour. It provides them with all the information they would need to book tickets.

Yes as it does interest the target audience with the vibrant colours which will attract them and clear instructions on where to buy tickets and how much they cost.
Feedback on connotations
  • What messages and ideas are being communicated in the text?
  • Do those messages and ideas seem appropriate to the genre and purpose of the text?
Your comment: the message is clear to who its targeting and also with the timings and where the world tour will take place. It also seems appropriate to the genre with the fonts being in a bright colour.

This is my tour poster I made on indesign and photoshop. This will help me with designing my magazine, as it has given me a clear understanding on how to use photoshop. For instance I have learnt how to change the size of my model and to cut it to fit the image I want. This will therefore lead to the outcome I want for making my tour poster and use that to develop my magazine.

My Magazine Font Page Swede

Reflection:

For this lesson I had to copy a magazine page using Indesign, which is a software that allows you to edit posters. Mine was of a Cardi B magazine.

I have also learnt how to use Indesign, for instance how to use different fonts styles and font sizes. I was trying to copy fonts and change the colours to reproduce the magazine. Magazines have conventional features, for instance cover lines, masthead, and cover stars. Cover lines are what makes the magazine stand out, the cover star is the main star represented in the magazine, the masthead is the main title of the magazine. These are all elements which attract the audience and make them want to buy the magazine.

what went well:

  • I felt the Billboard title had a good font size compared to the magazine I was copying and also was in a good position.
  • I also felt that the Cardi B title was in a good position.
  • I got the right colours for each of the fonts

What I could do better:

  • I felt that my lines were not straight, as it is quite hard to keep them straight and keep them the same size.
  • I thought that the 2020 woman in music wasn’t in the right position compared to the magazine, as it wasn’t really legible as it was in the way of the main cover star.
  • The Cardi B font wasn’t really the right font.

How this will affect my magazine:

Learning how to use Indesign will impact how I make my music magazine poster and the photo shots, as I have learnt how to use different font sizes and to create lines while adding weight to them so that they are legible.  Also when using Indesign I also have a lot of things to improve on for instance, making sure I select the right font and that it’s in a good position.

The two videos I chose and how they will help me:

These two videos will help me use indesign, this will allow me to get better at the stuff I am weak at, while also giving me tips and tricks. For the first video, it teaches me on how to make a straight line, as when I was copying the magazine cover I found it quite hard to make the lines straight. The second video is a fairly short video on tips on how to use indesign.

The Camera Talks

Reflection:

My group and I had to take photos from different angles and shots to create different naratives. We used the camera to frame a particular shot as a way of communicating with the audience.  We used different angles such as low angles and high angles. We also used different shots like long shots. These are used as a form of media language. In the angle shots we see how the high angles (looking down on the subject) signify that the subjects are powerless and apprehensive. In contrast, the low angles (looking up at the subject) exemplify high status and superiority. Also, the long shot exemplifies how the subject is lost in the open surroundings. I used low key lighting in one of the photos to create a sense of danger, for example the fact that the face is partially obscured, suggesting that the subject is a criminal or a stalker, which gives us a sense of unease. We also used different expressions, for instance in the leading line shot we see the subject’s hand on their face, which suggests that they have given up and lost the will to live. This creates emotion for us as we feel sorry for them. We also used particular facial expressions, for instance with the low angle the subjects are smiling, which creates the sense that they know we have a higher status than the person beneath them. This will have an impact on my music magazine, because I will be using different shots and lighting to communicate my ideas to my audience which are in keeping with the theme of my magazine. I will also be using different facial expressions and physical postures to help create the mood which I want to convey to my target audience.

My Image That Uses Mise-En-Scene To Communicate Meaning

Made with Padlet

This is my jazz mood board:

For this task in my group we were given particular music genres. Ours was jazz. We added pictures and described each image with comments. Jazz started out being popular in the 1920s, and originated in the African American communities. We see typically in jazz, how the men will be playing the instruments and the women would be singing. We also see how mise-en-scene is used, for instance with clothing as they wear smart clothes like suits and dresses. This signifies the theme of jazz being classy as they’re dressing appropriatly and fashionably. They also use media language for instance the poses to signify how passionate they are. The mise-en-scene creates a multi-dimensional way of communicating with the reader, like another aspect of language.  The creator is able to use more than just words to let the reader understand the message and the feeling of his work and in this way can add cultural meaning or mood in a way which is instantly accessible by the reader.

Post it note photo:

This is my post it note photo. My group and I used adjectives to describe how our model was represented. Some of the adjectives we used were talented, dedicted and vintage. We used particular uses of mise-en-scene to signify the theme of jazz. An example of this is we used particular clothes for the cotume, for instance the shades, bow tie, blazer, and the hat, we also used the saxophone as a prop. We did this to signify the true meaning of jazz which is an example of how imagery can be used as another dimension of language and communication, for instance the saxophone is a typical instrument played in jazz, and the bow tie, jacket and hat were typically what musicians of jazz would wear to represent the connotations of jazz.

In these images my model is signified as a jazz musician, through the use of mise-en-scene. My model is using props like the saxophone, and smart clothing to represent what a typical jazz artist would look like. The denotation of the clothing exemplifies how relaxed and calming jazz can be and is immediately associated with the stereotype of a jazz artist. The poses my model conveys, signifies that he is putting all his spirit when playing the saxophone. This conveys how passionate musicians can be and communicates that passion to the reader.

Reflection:

In conclusion, we see how using different types of mise-en-scene can impact how you want your theme to be conveyed and can enhance the message you want to convey, creating a different dimension to the written word.  For intsance using props, clothing, or striking a particular pose can be used in different ways to create meaning and emotion. For my magazine, I will be using particular costumes, props, and poses to fit the theme of my music magazine, and to create meaning for my targeted audience.

Tour Poster Analysis

My Reflection:

The poster of the iron maiden represents alot of elements. We see for example the uses of color, costumes, lighting and props used. Due to the use of color it seems its target audience is more set for boys than girls. This is due to the bright vivid colors like the orange and the blue. Represents a light side and a dark side. Also the bright colors signifies a high key lighting. The setting is in a more futuristic world on the right, with guns and flying cars. This contrasts with the setting on the left as it’s more in a Japanese like setting maybe set in 1603-1867 era. You can tell from the main guy wearing a samurai helmet, and the tower in the background. Also the guy on the right is looking self-assured, and is not curled up he has a more open pose. This represents he’s not afraid of anyone. He also looks like he’s in the main guys shadow, almost as though he works for him.

What I have learn’t, and how this will effect my magazine:

For my music magazine I will be using more color and a certain type of setting to target my auidence. I will also be using costumes and props to fit my theme of my magazine. I will also be using particular lighting like low key and high to key to represent my themes and to make it stand out.
