Project Meeting Agenda – Narrative

Before the shoot day, we decided to meet and discuss the details of the day. We wanted to be organised when it came to the actual shoot, and be sure we hadn’t forgotten anything. Below you can see the meeting agenda we created. This was very helpful when it came to shoot day, we were able to film efficiently without unexpected issues.

Shot Lists

To make sure that we are completely prepared for the shoot, we have created some shot lists including all the shots we need to complete during that specific shoot, which you can see below. This turned out to be so useful as we were able to film really efficiently.

Narrative Storyboard

In preparation for the shoot, we constructed a rough storyboard to try and picture some of the ideas we have been thinking about. This was really useful to really think about the shot variety too, we found the use of close up shots will be used more frequently in the beginning of the video, and as the chorus sets up the fast and heavy beat, the use of whip pans and extreme long shots will work much better.

Narrative and Performance Timeline

We have created a timeline carefully considering the order of our music video. This has helped us to decide that we are going to produce a video containing more narrative than performance as we feel this best represents the thematic ideas we plan to encode. It has also been helpful to discuss different shots and transitions, and from this we are able to think more deeply about how we want our video to look before we begin shooting. Additionally this gave us an opportunity to consider the lyrical references which is something we have chosen to illustrate quite heavily within our music video. You can see the timeline we have constructed below:

Feedback on the Pitch

Once I had presented my ideas for my music video, I got some feedback which you can listen to below;

It has been interesting to get some feedback and discus my ideas. I think my main targets from this would be;

– To make sure the actors feel comfortable and happy to perform in a confident and convincing manner. In order to do this, I must make sure they knows the song well and know what they are required to do, and fundamentally, create a relaxed atmosphere.

– To use artistic and quirky angles and framing, to achieve this I will be creating a storyboard of shots from other music videos I have researched to see what will work and look good. This will also make it much easier on the day of the shoot.

– To be sure I’m well aware of the sides of the different actors we’re filming, as we plan to film the females left and the males right.

The Pitch

I have thought about all aspects of my production and created a presentation. Below you can see that I have carefully considered the genre, target audience and the feel of the song, to produce ideas that I am able to make a reality. I am confident that these ideas are both creative and achievable, and look forward to getting to film it!

Audience Ideologies

Blumler  and Katz suggest that there are four reasons as to why an audience would actively seek out a media product, these reasons are known as Uses and Gratifications. These reasons include;

 – Information – whereby the consumer is looking for resources and knowledge, which would probably be media products like a newspaper, or BBC News.

– Personal Identity – where the consumer is looking to affirm their morals, behavior and sense of self. This could be something like YouTuber’s such as ‘Zoella’, although she has a vast audience, her audience feel this personal connection and identify with her.

– Social Interaction – so the audience will feel this sense of belonging, where they consume media to feel as though they fit into our culture, and have something to base their real life interactions on. This could be something like the TV series ‘Once Upon a Time’, its something people will talk about and feel this need to watch to ‘fit in’.

– Entertainment – where the audience is looking for something they will enjoy consuming for pleasure, simply something like a film, music video or game.

My audience member will be looking for entertainment, social interaction and personal identity. I have considered the values and beliefs of my target audience which you can see below. I think its important to really consider your target audience when creating a media product, as you are creating something that is intended for them.
