Montage

For this task, we were to film a montage sequence of no more than thirty seconds in length. The success criteria outlined for the task was as follows:

  • Shoot for continuity using montage to condense time and space.
  • Use speed to infer tension
  • Use close ups to show reactions / expression of the person completing the task
  • Shoot to edit at least one eye line match – significant object/person
  • Edit in at least one match on action
  • Use one interesting transition – wipe, dissolve etc.
  • Shoot at least 8 different objects/details using close up.
  • Use the rule of thirds in all shots

Assessment Criteria

1.Holding a shot steady
2. Framing a shot
3. (Shooting a) variety of shot distances

Strengths:

  • We followed our storyboard well
  • We included a variety of shots
  • The transition we used to end the montage flowed smoothly

Weaknesses:

  • We could of used our time effectively as we had very few versions per shot
  • The music at the end of the montage could of faded out rather than just being cut
  • Some shots appeared slightly unsteady

From this task, I have learnt some using editing techniques in premiere pro as part of the preparation for our thriller. From this task I also now feel more confident with the software and in the near future I will be able to produce some high quality work.

Montage Task – Storyboarding

For this task, we created a storyboard which helped us film the shots needed to create our montage. This storyboard is an important part of this task as it you a good structure to follow. The reason storyboards are used is to create a rough idea to follow and improve when filming. They also allow you to see what the film will look like and is a good tool to use when pitching your idea to a group or a company.

From this task we learnt the importance of storyboards, how to design shots and to make sure the shots are labelled in preparation towards producing our thriller opening sequence.
