Final Draft

This is the final draft of our music video. This includes all of the improvements that have been suggested to us since we sytarted making it. Personally. I feel like the narrative is a little bit confusing at parts and I feel like we could have done better. However, we worked with what we had and I think that it has ended up being better than we thought it would.

Peer Feedback

For our video, we were peer assessed by 3 different people and here is some of their feedback for us to help improve our video:

Person 1:

‘I think you did a good job with the variety of shots and distances particularly your narrative film. Your video also includes MES which goes with the genre and general feel of the music. However some things I think you can improve on is having more prominent lip syncing to allow the viewer to see the actor singing the song. I have noticed there are some parts where you are not cutting to the beat of the music.’

Person 2:

On genre, all costumes match each other.

All shots are steady, and the pans are stable too.

Some lip syncing but could be more consistent and constant throughout video (more close ups)

Variety of locations for performance and narrative which all link to the story well.

Add more close ups for the performance scenes, cut in and out of close up more frequently. (in our video we used the crop tool if we didn’t have a close up filmed)

Multiple angles concerning the animals and when the young girl is playing with them, this adds depth and conveys the genre.

Although you move locations for the performance the angle is always straight on. Could you add any side angles of performance or low/high.

I think there is a good amount of movement in the narrative which tells the story line.

Acting of animals and the young girl tells a credible story.

Shorten the clip of the girl ripping the paper – as you see that she drops it.

A good amount of close up shots for the instruments.

Plenty of long shots throughout.

You could also add some close up shots of maybe the animals feet as they walk ? To add more variety.

More close ups – use the crop filter if there are none filmed, we did this frequently in our video.

A variety of instruments used and edited to the beat well.

The colour filter used during the ‘count in’ adds character and looks really good.

I think you could do more of these or something similar to add vibrance – maybe on the other clips of Emma to make it cohesive.

You have cut from clip to clip on beat, including where there is use of instruments.

The transition using the ukulele is really good.

Add more transitions using effects to make the movement between performance and narrative consistent.

Costume and location.

Transition from one performance scene to another using ukulele.

Narrative and how the story line is addressed.

There is a clip of Emma where she is speaking/lipsyncing but it is not in time to the lyrics. (2:35mins)

Person 3:

What Went Well:

– You have included some great shots of the band in the performance.

–  I especially liked the editing of the color-changing shirt to the beat.

– I understood the narrative at the beginning.

– Great mise-en-scene; use of animal costumes and setting of a real estate agent.

– You executed the transition from the guitar to the performance really well.

– Good use of various camera movements and shots taken from different angles/distances.

Improvements:

– Black cuts are the beginning are distracting and don’t add much to the video.

– Didn’t understand the significance of the posterize, cartoony effect on animals.

– Some blank bits occurred, but I assume you are planning on adding in more clips.

– There’s a clip, a close-up of the bass guitar, where there is no movement of the performer playing it at the beginning when the music is playing; so maybe cut the beginning of that clip so that the performer is consistently playing it.

– Girl running away – the colour changes in the clip of the slow-motion run so make sure to apply the same attributes to both clips.

– Clips at the end need stabilising.

We will try to address most of these issues in the future draft of our music video. We will mainly focus on stabilising clips and making sure that things are in time with the song.

Music Video Draft 4

This is the fourth draft of my music video. This draft contains all the effects that we wish to use in the video and all of the shots are in the correct places. We have all the shots we need now, the only thing to be done is the final touch ups to the video. In the final draft we also need to include what we have learned from the peer feedback.

Target Feedback – Screen Castify

Now that we have had the input from Specsavers, we need to listen to the feedback from our teacher aand make the improvements to the video. The feedback from our teacher is shown in the ScreenCastify below.

We will listen to this feedback and make the adjustments to our video. This will help us move towards the completion of our music video. Our video is now looking much better than the earlier drafts.

Specsavers Feedback

We had some professional cinematography experts from Specsavers come into our lesson to look at our music video and give us some useful feedback. We were told about some useful shortcuts which would make the production of our video easier to complete. A useful skill that they taght us on Premier Pro was keyframing, this tells the software to do something at a certain point in the clip. This was useful bevause it meant that we could then zoom in to one of the instruments in the middle of the clip.

Music Video Draft 3

This is the third draft our our music video. This has changed from the second draft because we have changed the lengths of shots we thought were too long and we have started to think about differen effects we can use. We have tried to use a cartoon effect for the animals in the video but this may not be added as it doesn’t really work and it is very time consuming. We are still thinking of other effects that we could add. One of the problems with using effects in our video however is that we need to make sre that the effect fits the song. If we went and used a neon effect in one of the shots, it wpould not usit our song because our song has a different style to it.

Music Video Draft 2

This is the second draft of our music video. This draft includes narrative and performance but it has not been perfected yet, we are missing close ups and some of the shots are too long or short. We need to address these problems for our next few drafts of our video. This draft does also not include any effects which we may wish to add. This is just the video with narrative and performance, nothing else has been done to it at this point.

Targets for improvement:

– Add any effect which we may wish to add.

– Take some more close up shots and add them to the video.

– Adjust the length of some of the shots so they are not too long or too short.

Shoot 2 Reflection – Narrative

For our narrative shoot we used a few locations. We used an office at Admiral Park for the estate agent scenes and we used a public nature trail for the other shots. This was after we had changed the narrative. We had already done a narrative shoot previously but upon reflection wew realised that we didn’t like it so we decided as a group that it was better to change the narrative and re-shoot in the summer holidays. For our new shoot, the weather was nicer than it was on the first shoot so the lighting was much better. We also planned what sorts of shots we wanted to use better on our second shoot. For our first narrative shoot we didn’t have much of a plan of what we were going to do or what angles we were using.

Here are some of the photos that we got while we were shooting our video. This shows us having fun behind the scenes and it also shows us using the equipment in the photos.

Risk Assessment

This is the risk assessment for our narrative shoot for our music video. This tells people where we are going to be, how long we are going to be there for, contact numbers and information on how we plan on reducing the risks of different things when we are shooting our narrative.
