Music Video Draft 2

This is the second draft of our music video. This draft includes narrative and performance but it has not been perfected yet, we are missing close ups and some of the shots are too long or short. We need to address these problems for our next few drafts of our video. This draft does also not include any effects which we may wish to add. This is just the video with narrative and performance, nothing else has been done to it at this point.

Targets for improvement:

– Add any effect which we may wish to add.

– Take some more close up shots and add them to the video.

– Adjust the length of some of the shots so they are not too long or too short.

Shoot 2 Reflection – Narrative

For our narrative shoot we used a few locations. We used an office at Admiral Park for the estate agent scenes and we used a public nature trail for the other shots. This was after we had changed the narrative. We had already done a narrative shoot previously but upon reflection wew realised that we didn’t like it so we decided as a group that it was better to change the narrative and re-shoot in the summer holidays. For our new shoot, the weather was nicer than it was on the first shoot so the lighting was much better. We also planned what sorts of shots we wanted to use better on our second shoot. For our first narrative shoot we didn’t have much of a plan of what we were going to do or what angles we were using.

Here are some of the photos that we got while we were shooting our video. This shows us having fun behind the scenes and it also shows us using the equipment in the photos.

Risk Assessment

This is the risk assessment for our narrative shoot for our music video. This tells people where we are going to be, how long we are going to be there for, contact numbers and information on how we plan on reducing the risks of different things when we are shooting our narrative.

Video Narrative Photo Board/Shot List

This is our photo board and shot list from our narrative shoot for our music video. This is essential for plannign what to do on the day of the shoot. These slides include details about what we are going to film and what angle we are going to film it in. This is so that when we get to the shoot location, we don’t end up wasting time deciding what shots to do so these slide come in very helpful when doing shoots. If we follow what we have said we are going to do in these slides, our music video should all go well. Some of the shots included in this shot board are cuts to close up, long shots to establish the scene and mid shots etc. When filming for our narrative, we need to mke sure it makes narratrive sense, this means we need to film it in a way which will make the narrative recognisable to people who are watching the video. We need to make sure that we use a variety of shot distances and shoot the narrative scenes in the correct order, this will make it easier when it comes to editing the footage together. Once we had finished this shoot, we discovered that we had missed somee shots that were very impiortant to our video. We didn’t get enough close up shots so we needed to go and re-shoot for those shots. This shows that no matter how much you plan, you will still run out of ideas and shots. So this shows that in future I almost need to overplan so that I have enough ideas for shots before I get to the shoot.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

Now we are on to actually filming our music video. This is a short clip of the performance part of our video. I chose this part of the video to include in this post because I think it is the best edited part of the performance shoot that we have.

What went well?

– We arrived at the locations on time and ready to go

– The sun came out on the day that we did the shoot so the lighting was great

– Our energy was gereat for the performance shoot so in the video you can tell that we were enjoying it.

– Our setting was well chosen because we found a gap in the trees that was easy to shoot in. We also did’nt disturb many people because we were in a forest away from houses.

Things to improve

– I will need to make sure that I get enough shots next time, this is because I felt like I was running out of shots to use in the editing of the performance. There weren’t any close ups of the main star which is something that obviously needs to change for the narrative shoot.

– There was also one of the shots that wasn’t in focus for the performance so I need to make sure that all future shots are in full focus.

– Another thing that we need to be careful of in the narrative shoot is people in the background. In one of the shots, there was someone that could be seen walking through the back of the frame.

– The final thing that I need to make sure is fixed for the narrative shoot is the transitions. If a scene has to be done in two shots in the same place, people cannot jump around in the shot like they are teleporting, unless it is deliberate.

– I need to make sure that more close ups/reaction shots are used in the next shoot we do. This is because we were lacking close ups in this shoot and it meant that we struggled to convey the mood of the performers.

Shoot 1 Reflection – Performance

This is a short clip of our performance shoot. We did this shoot in two locations, one was La Guet and the other was the multi story car park at Admiral Park. these two loactions were very different to shoot in but they both work for our video. There was a difference in lighting between the two locations as the car park was shot in the evening so the sun was setting when were doing our shoot. If this shoot was to be done again, I would make sure that we took more close up shots as this is something that we are clearly missing. Overall, the shoot went well and the lighting was great because of the weather. It was mainly just the close up shots which we were missing from this shoot.

Star Image – The Performer

Before recording a music video, it is important that you research the artist so that you know how they aere portrayed in the media. For example, American Authors are represented as being fun, nice and thoughtful. We need to make sure that we show this in our music video. Music Videos are mainly used to promote the artist, so it is essential that we show what genre they are from so that people know what sort of music the artist makes.
