Narrative Sequence

STORYBOARD:

By making a storyboard to plan a video, it gives a better insight to how the video can be filmed and it creates a simple description of the step-by-step process to film the video allowing space for extra detail to be added. Storyboards are necessary for planning, as writing down the plan with the camera shots necessary will help the group, making the video, remember what they originally planned and it makes sure everyone in the group are on the same page. My groups storyboard to plan for a 30 second short film contains 14 shots drew out using simple stick figures and doodles representing things such as the camera and objects needed for the video. We did not stick completely to the plan but the storyboard let us know the rough idea for how the narrative should be filmed.

OUR FINISHED SHORT FILM:

Using Adobe Premiere Pro, we edited the clips which we filmed and assorted them into a linear structure with the addition of a soundtrack and colour filters. Using the razor tool, we were able to cut the clips in order to convey the narrative and add editing techniques like pace of edit and shot reverse shot.

EVALUATION OF WHAT WENT WELL:

  • Good variation of shots to entice the audience e.g. mid shots, long shots, low and high angles, close ups, wide shots, dollys and pans
  • Framing techniques such as the rule of thirds was used to present a cohesive look and a good quality viewing experience for the viewers
  • The creation of fear was introduced successfully due to the off-putting ticking sound which built up tension as well as the monochromization of the video when the ‘unconscious’ body was first shown
  • Differentiation was included due to the editing technique of match on action

EVALUATION OF WHAT COULD’VE GONE BETTER

  • There was a small error in the editing of the corridor scene as the actor was walking down. One of the shots showed the actor walking behind where he was in the previous shot
  • The narrative sequence had a large build up and could have bored the audience
  • Multiple takes could have been shot to be able to choose between them to create a higher standard quality of the video
