To help know what audience I would need to target in order for them to read my magazine and for it to be successful I used yougov.co.uk to research three different popular jazz singers and see what their audience psychographics and demographics. I researched Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. What this research showed me was that the main demographic of jazz listeners are male and from the baby boomer generation.
Using my research I made a dating profile based on someone who is part of my target audience. To help me with this task I used the Blumer and Katz theory, using uses and gratifications (entertainment, personal identity, education and social interaction). The Blumer and Katz theory was very useful for this task as it helped me encode what my target audience would want to decode for preferred reading. Doing this task has helped me become a better media producer as I now know all the different important aspects to use and consider when researching your target audience for whatever product you are making.
