Audience Profiling

The task we were set was to annotate the conventions of a music magazine and then research the pyschographics and demographics of a specific music magazine; we were given “Classic Rock”.

This task enabled us to research how different media magazine platforms attract different audiences, in this example the demographic of “Classic Rock” tends to be:

  • male
  • aged 40-54 
  • a low social class (C2DE) 
  • based around central Scotland

The psycho graphics that go with this audience are that they are: individualistic and home soldiers. we also had to research the magazine’s sole purpose; otherwise known as a mission statement, this magazine’s sole purpose is to“focus on key bands from the 1960’s through to early 1990’s”

from this task I have gathered that to gain a specific audience you have to use a specific design for all the conventions, whether it’s the:

  • masthead
  • colour
  • design 
  • images

When I come to design my magazine I will now include a specific genre of conventions that attract the audience I am looking for.
