Final DP Draft

The Final Draft for our Digipak

Reflection –

Since our third draft we have increases the font size of ‘artificial’, made the ’emmarie’ a serif font to add elegance, made the ‘satisfaction’ another colour, changed the background colour of the inside left and included the title of the CD and our Star’s name on the right in the inside to promote her further.

Our Digipak follows the typical conventions of our genre, Indie, through the use of bright colours which are present in the font throughout the Digipak as well as the chosen colours on the inner left pane. During the initial planning process of our Digipak we moved more towards the alternative style of Indie, this meant that we could be more creative with our Digipak. During the planning stage we chose to represent the sense of a journey and moving on which we encoded, Dyer, on final panel by having our Star be surrounded by objects such as boxes and old vinyl records. On the Front panel she is lit by low-key, chiaroscuro lighting which is to draw all of the attention onto her face and highlight shadows for depth, we chose green and orange card which we placed over the main light to therefore add some soft colour. The use of a main prop on the front cover was to imply a dangerous side to our Star as fire is often a signifier, De Saussure, of power and danger. The size of the Masthead conveys dominance and the use of the colour green is an accent colour of the left side of her face, the use of the Pink in the Emmarie is an accent colour of the ‘Satisfaction’ and we chose to use pink because it connotes femininity and love which is a running theme throughout the Digipack as the font on the inside right and back panel is pink as well as the background on the inside left. For the photos on the inside left of the Digipak we used Barthes symbolic code to represent the Star’s personality, this allows our Star to be represented as ordinary and real which was important for our Social Media Page as well as our Digipak. Throughout our Digipak the Indie genre is represented, it is colourful and positive and the audience is first drawn in through the eyeline match on the first panel. Our Digipak represents femeninity, power and moving forward as well as the Indie genre.

Digipak Draft 3

Our Digipak Draft 3

Since the second Draft we have changed the font colour and font of the Masthead and the colour of the font on the ’emmarie’ as well as the font on that too. the inside left now includes more photos as well as a backing colour and lyrics from our music video. This ties the Digipack together nicely and brightens it because of the extra colour. Next I think it would be best to make the ‘Satisfaction’ in the Masthead a different colour because at the moment it is not as eye-catching as it should be, we could also increase the font size of the ‘artificial’ to make it stand out of the page.

Our Digipak Draft 2

Screencastify notes from the teacher –

For our Digipak the next thing that we would like to add would be a more elegant and smaller font on the ’emmarie’ in the bottom right corner. This would be to enhance the femininity of the front cover as the font colour is pink. Overall the middle panel and back panel capture and portray the message that we would like them to and we are extremely happy with all of the photos in our Digipak. For our next Draft we would like to change the Masthead colour and the font type of ’emmarie’ to make the front cover pop out more.

Digipak Draft 1

Due to our star being ill on the day of our shoot we gathered images of ideas that we wanted to incorporate into our own Digipak. For our front page we want to use a lowkey, green and orange lighting to represent the unique, emotional and raw side of her music. Following this we have chosen to have a medium long shot for our back cover, we want her whole body to be in it to juxtapose the mid/close up shot on the front cover. We also want to use one key prop in the front cover and a few props for the back cover. We want it to be minimalist but tell a story at the same time and we hope to portray her emotional and ordinary side as a Star through our digipak.

Evaluation of shoot or graphic design

An evaluation of our shoot :

During the process of our photo production we struggled to figure out how to create the orange and green colours to highlight her face for the front cover. We found that this would be done the most efficiently by taping orange and green cardboard onto lowkey lights. The photos taken in the end are very similar to what we had envisaged for our Digipak and from all of the photos taken we chose four from each shoot, we chose the photos that depicted the story that we were trying to convey the most effectively and the photos that we thought would represent our genre and blend together the best. I think these photos represent her emotional and personal side as an artist and they are quirky, interesting and intriguing. Our next step is to choose one photo for each side and create our Digipak and brighten the photos, we will go from there to create the inside covers as well as complete the additional design conventions such as the song titles.

Digipak Mockup

Final mock up of our Digipak

Reflection –

As a group we have decided to use a range of themes for our front and back cover. We have chosen to incorporate a bright and colourful theme on the front panel and on the back our plan is to use an image of the star on the back and have the TV’s surrounding her as it links in with the Indie genre. We have changed the front cover of our digipak since the initial image design and we have chosen to have a close up/mid shot of our star with orange reflective lights on her face, her hair wet and a lit match in her mouth, this will convey the quirkiness and edginess of her album. Throughout the process of our shoots we have given enough space for change and adaptations.

Digipak Conventions and Analysis

This google slides presentation includes an album cover that is analysed according to the typical conventions of an album cover and what an album includes. We analysed album covers that were similar to our genre of music that we have chosen for our music video, by doing this I gathered a better understanding of album cover conventions for my magazine and for when I create my album cover with my group. I chose to do an album cover by Billie Eilish, it has a childlike nature due to the position that she is sat and the use of a staircase which has connotations of a climbing frame.
