My Media Diet

This is my media diet:

  • Entertainment: Netflix, Youtube, Amazon Prime, Switch, PS5 , Spotify.
  • Information: Snapchat, Instagram, Youtube, Switch, PS5.
  • Personal Identity: Spotify, Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube.
  • Social Interaction: Instagram, Snapchat, Youtube.

I use media mostly for entertainment and social interaction. I also use media to get information about the things I am interrested in and also to discover new ideas. I also use media to check the news and the weather and to keep myself up to date.

Blumler and Katz:

Uses and Gratification: I understand that media has many uses and I often use it without realising. It has an important effect on me because of the gratification I get from it. For example:

  • Entertainment: We use entertainment to escape from the real world, and for our own personal satisfaction. For example I use netflix and PS5 to escape reality.
  • Information: Information can be used as a helpful guide to what is going on in the world which is typically found in media. For example I use Youtube and news apps to get information about current affairs and things I am interested in.
  • Personal Identity: Using personal identity difines us as people, and who we are. For example  I use Youtube to follow my role models and I use spotify and listen to my own personal music to relax.
  • Social Interaction: We use media as a starter for a conversation, to increase are social interaction with people. For example I use snapchat and instagram to keep in touch with friends and to comment on their posts.

What I learnt: I learnt that a prosumer is someone who consumes and produces media. An example of this is when we watch our favourite influencers on  Youtube, or reading information from social media. And I have also learnt that I will use uses and gratification to make my magizine and music video more apealing to the audience.
