Final Draft

This is the final draft our music video below:

Reflection:

With months of work having gone into this project, I have been able to acquire many new skills and learn many things. Overall I am very happy with our final product and feel that our music video has come a long way from Draft One. I also feel that our music video successfully communicates the messaging and conventions of EDM. For example, within the music video we communicate the importance of self-care and how EDM often suggests that enlightenment can be found through the party lifestyle. This is portrayed within our music video through the journey our protagonist is taken on by the magic chair. It is visually clear that protagonist is in a happier situation that she was prior, this is communicated through cultural codes, where at the beginning she’s in an office which is often associated with mundanity in comparison to the ending at the party which is communicated with letting loose and fun.

Ending of The Music Video.

Organisation was a key aspect to the success of our music video, we noticed as filming continued the importance of allowing ourselves the maximum amount of time to record within as to minimise stress and errors within filming. I feel that our music video also successfully communicates conventions of a music video such as editing to the beat, a narrative, a performance and more, matched with the conventions of the EDM and Trance genre including psychedelic and unreal sequences such as the stop motion used to convey the movement of the office chair or the bright neon colours around the street dancer.

Peer Feedback

An important aspect of media creation is ensuring you have a healthy amount of feedback so that your music video can reach the best it can be, in order to achieve this we got peer feedback from students in other classes.

Reflection

Within our reflection we got positive feedback within our variety of shots and angles within our filming and costume work. The negatives that have been filmed and therefore remain include criteria such as acting and money shots, however there is also feedback on which we can work on. This includes editing to the beat, filters and transitions, therefore moving forward we will put a focus on ensuring these elements are better for the final draft. He also notes that our narrative is not yet complete, this will be rectified for our final draft.

Music Video Draft 4

What’s New?

  • First of all, we have added in the last load of footage in which we had to record, the addition of this means that we now have a narrative which can be understood from start to finish.
  • We have created travelling shots using green screen in order to work as a transition between scenes.
  • Some further additions to colour correction and opacity.

What’s Next

  • We still want to play with further colour correction, especially in the scenes that have recently been filmed.
  • Green Screen shots to fill in the remaining holes within the music video.

Reflection

Through creating this draft, I have successfully learned how to use chroma key and other green screen effects, I also feel that now we have a successful narrative that can be understood by the audience. To focus forward, I would now like to be able to create same variety to the transition shots.

Specsavers Feedback.

What Went Well:

  • Lenny (the representative) was very impressed by the effects in which we achieved within our music video. Including Stop Motion, Green Screen and Fades.
  • The speed which our music video cut from shot to shot felt appropriate the speed of the song itself.
  • He felt that the camera movement added a manic feel to the music video which is appropriate to the message we are trying to communicate.

Even Better If:

  • Lenny felt that some clips had to be shortened as on occasion some clips did not fell in-keeping with the speed of the audio, and this had to be rectified.
  • He suggested having a play with colour correction and even adding unusual hues to the clips in order to further emphasize the psychedelic feel of the music video.
  • He showed us how we could play further with fades to also put emphasis on the psychedelic feel.

Reflection:

This meeting with representatives from Specsavers was very beneficial to us. This is because we wanted to create many more effects in which we could add to our music video but were unsure on how to achieve some of the effects desired, this allowed us to get experience who had a deep knowledge of after affects. This helped us create this psychedelic feel we have been aiming to achieve since the beginning.

Music Video Draft 3

Changes that have been made:

  • We have included many more scenes that are to be included within the music video in order to further elaborate on our narrative.
  • We have began to add special effects into our music video, including transitions and colour correction.
  • We have learned to play around with opacity within the music videos in order tio overlay footage on top of other footage.

Changes that are to be made next:

  • We would like to further implement more colour correction in order to give each scene a different feel.
  • We would like to add more transitions to create an even trippier feel for the music video.
  • We of course plan to film the rest of the footage which is as yet un-filmed so we can implement this into our finished music video.
  • Some of the shots with the camera don’t feel still so the camera movement needs to be lessened. Alternatively, some shots feel too static and some artificial movement may be required.

Reflection:

Now that we are getting near the completion of our music video, I have learnt many techniques in order to edit the music video, this will be important when putting together our final music video as it means we will have developed the filming and editing skills in order to create a music video that matches the genre we have selected.

Music Video Draft 2

This is my self review below:

4 things that went well:

  1. The footage that we had filmed was successfully able to fit the genre and narrative that we were trying to create.
  2. Despite the jumpy and fast nature of our music video, the editing manages to keep on track with the speed of the music.
  3. We had a full variety of shots including long shots to extreme close ups.
  4. The actors feel comfortable in their roles, including the star image and the costumes of which achieve mise en scene.

4 things that could be improved:

  1. The camera at times shakes.
  2. Allow for some of the shots to flow into eachother so that the video does not feel as jolty.
  3. Add some colour correction to the scenes.
  4. An increase in reaction shots might help communicate to the audience the feelings of the characters.

Reflection:

What we would like to achieve next in our music video is that we would like to have the video’s colours pop more so that the video feels as wacky as we would like. We will also edit the other encounters that have not yet been included within the editing process of our music video, this will allow for the narrative to be clearer. We would also like to make shots flow into each other some of the time rather than jolt every time. The visuals have been designed in order to fit the genre of the music video. For example, our rapper character within the back ally scenes matches the low-fi genre of our song. This is to help communicate the message in which the music video is conveying

Shoot 2 Reflection (Narrative)

On the day of our second shoot, our narrative shoot, my partner & I decided it would be appropriate to create a shot list in order to be more organized and efficient in regards to what we would achieve.  For this shoot we decided to shoot within a school day where we had many study periods, this meant we had an appropriate amount of time in order to perfect our shots and film multiple scenes throughout the day.

Above is the shot list we used in order to achieve the shot’s we did. Some of the shots created using this shot list include:

Close up of the middle worker as she starts to become overwhelmed.

Side profile of the worker as she is leant against the wall.

What Went Well:

  • The mise en scene aimed for within the shot list was successfully achieved.
  • The shots we wrote we wanted to achieve within the shot list was successfully achieved.
  • We managed to get all the footage we needed completed within the day.
  • Extra actors to play the robotic workers successfully achieved what we needed.

What we could improve on:

  • In future we could improve on organization in regards to acquiring the props and having them in the right place to make production more efficient.

Risk Assessment

This is our risk assessment:

Reflection:

Here we have completed our second risk assessment in order to ensure that my partner & I are fully aware of any risks that could take place. Although, we will be filming in a school environment meaning the risk of accident is low, it is still important to ensure that our attention is drawn to any accident’s that may occur and that we will be fully prepared if they do.
