Branding And Mission Statement

Through studying other music magazines and learning about what  they generally include and other conventions that are found within them I have decided that the genre of my music magazine will be country and it will be called Classic Country as it will be about country music that sounds more like older country singers such as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams as country music has many sub genres of more modern country and my magazine will focus more on more acoustic and classic-sounding country songs. The unique selling point (USP) of the magazine will be the magazines focus on acoustic country musicians and songs. My magazine will include entertaining interviews with musicians whilst also providing information on newer songs. This will allow people to personally identify with country music and the often american values refelcted in it and it will also help people with socially interacting with other country fans.

Here is my world cloud:

My magazines mission statement will be:

Classic Country is one of the worlds leading country music magazines and is focused on celebrating the roots of country music with information about legendary singers such as Dolly Parton and John Denver while also providing our readers with articles and reviews of newer artists and the most popular country artists. We cover your favourite artists with behind the scenes interviews and album releases all while celebrating the classic country that everyone knows and loves. Classic Country aims to provide our readers with a way to celebrate older country while also keeping up to date with your favourite modern artists such as Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan.

By learning about other country music magazines and their brands I have learned what to include to make my magazine interesting and fun to read whilst also being unique and standing out from other country music magazines to intrigue readers and get people to want to read it.

A Front Cover Analysed – Attracting ‘that’ audience

By analysing this classical music magazine I have discovered and analysed multiple different technical design conventions that magazines use to appeal to their key demographics and attract their target audience. For example, the professional collared shirt the man in the image is wearing infers to the reader that the music is professional and sophisticated which appeals to the older target audience. The bold and professional font also represents the music and how it is thought out and professional. This represents to the reader that the magazine will be informative and
proper. There is also clear text stating “How the music industry is responding to Covid-19” which highlights and issue that would appeal to a large segment of the audience and connote that the magazine is important and will cover an issue that is interesting to the older audience.

In the future this will help me as I now know that I can use different features to appeal to the audience based on their ideologys and beliefs by tailoring the magazine to appeal to them based on their psychographics. This will allow me to make a magazine that can appeal well to my specific target audience.

Conventional Design Features Of A Magazine

There are many main features that are shared throughout all different types of magazines; these help readers easily recognise the magazines and draw their attention to the magazines unique articles to attempt to get the reader to buy it and read it. Some of these shared aspects are:

  • Cover Lines
  • Masthead
  • Barcode and price
  • Captions
  • Plugs

These features altogether add up to make an eye-catching magazine for example, the cover lines advertise to readers all other information and articles they could read inside the magazine and help get them to want to read further on. In the future I can use what I have learned about magazines to use all of the technical and formal conventions to meet audience expectations when I create my own magazine cover so that it looks professional and well-made.
