Narrative Sequence

In a group of two we created a storyboard to help plan out the variety of shots that we would use for the sequence. We decided on a narrative sequence of a man shooting a basketball into a hoop. Whilst doing this we tried to ensure that all of the shots helped clearly convey the narrative so that any audience would clearly understand what was happening. The goal of doing this was to help understand how to convey a narrative through editing and different shots.

We also shot using match on action to help convey the motion of the scene. We tried to keep a sense of continuity throughout the clip however it is a bit muddled at the beginning when he ends up further back then he was. We tried to use the actor to build a sense of the atmosphere of the scene. We decided to finish the video by cutting to a close up of the ball as it falls out of the hoop and lands on the ground. Originally the shots were ordered slightly differently however we decided to switch two as we felt that edit made more sense in the narrative. We were able to do this because, when we were filming we remembered that it was going to be edited for narrative sense so we took multiple shots to cut together.

In the future this will help me create videos as I now have a better understanding of how to convey a narrative using different shots and angles. Going forward I now know to carefully think through the continuity of the scene and make sure that all shots flow together well and create a clear structure and timeline.
