Shoot 1 Reflection (Performance)

For my groups first shoot we decided to use the outside changing rooms, which we kitted out to look like a place where the band hangs out. We used a tapestry, some vinyl records, posters, wall art and more accompanied with the musical equipment and instruments to give it the feel we were looking for. We used a variety of shots and angles to make a more interesting video for people to watch.

What went well…

  • We made a good scene which ended up looking exactly as we wanted it.
  • The syncing of the music parts to the music was on point, making it easy to match later on in the editing.
  • decent amount of angles for the shots.

What we could have done better…

  • We could have got more shots, especially of later on in the song as we didn’t get much footage of the later verse and chorus.
  • We should have made the lighting more interesting as it was just the day light in there.
  • Could have had multiple cameras going at the same time, that way getting maximum amount of varied shots.

I think doing this shoot earlier in the year has prepared me for the shoots later. It has also given me some backup shots incase we cannot do another shoot.

Star Image – The Performer

To get a more in depth look at how our star image should look, I created a collage of pictures to see what the stereophonic style was and how we could merge their style with ours. This can be done through using Mese-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound and a good repertoire of elements. Using all these elements in our future shoots and creations we can create our own personality. The genre the Stereophonics fall into is alternative indie rock. This genre has many differing conventions that could change how a star is perceived, this could be anything from the modern style of music, using synths, to the outfits many stars in this genre wear. Throughout the music video, digipack and social media page our star image needs to remain the same, to ensure it does not feel disjointed and unplanned.

Perfect Production Group

To ensure that our entire group new what they were doing, when, and how, we created this file in which it delegates to everybody what they are supposed to be doing. This is meant to help our organisation and to make sure that our group keeps the commitment to the shoot.

To Focus forward, I will feel more comfortable being able to organise a video shoot. Creating the doc has also given me an understanding of how to organise and delegate a group.

Conventional Shots and Narrative for my Genre

To solidify our understanding of what elements and characteristics need to be in a music video we made a padlet including as many as we could think of. This not only helped in the making of this music video but will help us all in future projects. We included things like dolly, crane shot, drone, high angle low angle, long shot and more. This will help us prepare for any future movie or music projects as we now know what sort of things are expected of professional level projects.

Final Pitch To Teacher

Our final pitch for our music video to the teachers took a lot of planning and preparation. This needed to be executed well so we could walk into our shoot location and know exactly what we are doing, what to wear and act etc. The slide show underneath has most of our planing on it.

Overall there are things that went well and things we could have done better in our pitch and slide show. I think…

The positives…

  • We added a good mood bored of photos on our first slide which shows some of our ideas for shots and scenes in our video.
  • Our brief description gave a good amount of information in a short amount fo writing.
  • The slide show worked well and looked good so it didn’t bore the viewer when seeing it.
  • Our choice of song was good for the kind of music video we plan to do.
  • The locations we chose are fitting for the song and genre of music video.

Some of the things we can work on…

  • We should have made a plan for the mise-en-scene.
  • We need to pay attention to the conventions of music videos.
