Specsavers Feedback

Some of the media team at specsavers came in to our class and gave us feedback on our video and showed us some extras on premier pro.

These are some of the things they showed us…

  • Showed me how to find the colour alteration features such as changing the Hue, Saturation, RGB colours, and more.
  • Told us about creating multiple folders so we could keep our videos and images separate.
  • Cut out the accidental fourth wall break at 1:28.
  • Get more close ups.

The advice they gave us is extremely important as it shows us a professional opinion of our work.

Music Video – Final Draft

For this final draft, we kept our changes to a minimum. After draft 3 upon reflection we decided to fix some of the main points from the screecastify. These are some of the points we looked at for our changes…

  • Increase the pace of edit.
  • Possibly change the shots of Nate not singing the lyrics at the end, if we have the shots.
  • Cut between the aerial and low angle shots of the drums.
  • Try add more close ups of the performance and narrative.
  • Fix the odd cut at 1:40

This has polished up our music video to a high standard, and makes it a much easier watch.

Peer Feedback

This is the feedback I received based on my 3rd draft of my music video. This gave me a second opinion to work from which allowed me to see different things about the video which were good and which needed changing to make the best possible version we could.

To fix some of these issues we need to work on some transitions and close ups. I would say to make it more interesting we need to add some filters and add some colour editing.

Screen Castify

We send our teacher our music video so she could give us some feedback. Miss Cobb created a screen castify and sent it to us for us to resolve the main points in our music video that needed touching up.

For this my group decided to create a list of bullet points that we need to have tried to accomplish for our last draft…

  • When the chorus hits, the first time round, go back to close ups of Nate singing.
  • Increase the pace of edit.
  • Possibly change the shots of Nate not singing the lyrics at the end, if we have the shots.
  • Cut between the aerial and low angle shots of the drums.
  • Try add more close ups of the performance and narrative.
  • Add more pov shots if possible.
  • Jump cut is good on logs.
  • Varying angles is good

Music Video Draft 2

This is our second draft of our music video. In this draft we added a lot more footage to fill up the song and made sure it all lined up with the music nicely.

Reflecting back on this draft there are some things we did well and some things we could clearly improve on. Here are some goals and targets we need to work on to make this take even better…

  • We should have left some more space between some of the shots as they change very quickly at points.
  • The drum part at the start should come on, on the beat rather than have me waiting to start.
  • I feel the shot at the beginning should have been a close up, then cut to mid shot, rather than just the mid shot of Nate.
  • Broke the 4th wall at 1:28.
  • Need to add the extra narrative shots in of me (the drummer) remembering.

Shoot 2 reflection – Narrative

Our Narrative shoot took place in two main locations, one behind St Steven’s church, and two in and around Beau Sejour. This gave us ample opportunity to get a plethora of shots and backgrounds to make the video look interesting. We decided to use the surroundings to our advantage and used old logs and stones to set the scene as a fire place behind the church and used the swings and climbing frames to “mess around on”.

There are some things I feel we could have done better, and some things I feel we did well…

Things that went well…

  • We got plenty of different locations and backgrounds to keep the idea of our narrative running as smooth as it can do.
  • We made a good scene behind the church as seen in the first of the two shots above.

Things to work on…

  • Should have made the footage of better quality as it wasn’t all in focus and a lot of it was shaky.
  • We didn’t get a huge variety of shots.
  • The narrative that we shot doesn’t look very good as we didn’t plan the acting as well as we should have.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

This is a short rough cut of the beginning of our performance video. The final product will be around half and half, narrative to performance, which is why the performance is short for the moment.

What went well…

  • The syncing of the instruments and singing to the music was very close for a rough cut.
  • The camera is always in focus on the right things.

What we could improve on…

  • We should have got a wider variety of shots.
  • We shouldn’t have blocked all the drums and wide angle shots and the beginning and end. Should have spread the shots differently.
  • The drums aren’t in the right place in one of the drum shots. Needs to be edited better.

Aims for the future…

  • We should add some more transitions.
  • Need to get more shots; more steady footage, more interesting angles and types of shots.
  • The pace of edit needs to be improved a lot.
