Flash notes
- Use the umbrella diffuser
- Make sure legs are stable
- Make sure front leg is lined up with direction of light so it doesn’t fall forward
- Umbrella is used to diffuse light / soften the light so it’s less harsh
- Make sure umbrella is up
- Use arrows on the flash to increase decrease the brightness (green number) – 20 minimum / 60 maximum
- Red number should be on zero!
- Lightning sign = test button – tests the flash
- Speaker sign – Beep is important – tells you the flash has definitely gone off (and at the same time as any other flash you may have)
- Focus your camera in the dark using the daylight light. Flash light will neutralise all other light.
- Turn off mains light – you don’t want any foreign light source.
- Get both lights to go together using the ‘eye’ button
- If too dark or too bright change the green number up or down
- Make sure your camera has the little metal dot on top.
- Hot shoe adapter – slide it on and make sure it’s nice and tight (needs connection to the dot)
- So when you click your camera the flash should go
- Tighten the hot shoe adapter
- Camera settings =
- Make sure flash mode is on
- ISO 100 (never have ISO on auto),
- F stop (aperture) = F8,
- Shutter speed 1/60 (don’t go above this)
- If it’s too bright – change the arrows – practise shots
- If using two lights – can just use as a fill light
- Make sure the hot shoe adapter is plugged into the light
