Music Video Form & Conventions

Here you can see my analysis of 3 different music video’s. Each video is different in terms of the style of video, whether it’s a narrative video, performance styled music video or a bit of both. Having these are a convention in terms of music video making. Having these styles help influences the ‘star image’ of the artist. If it’s a performance it is usually centered specifically around the artist, however if it’s a narrative it’s usually about the lyrics, not the artist so much.

Having analysed these video’s I have learnt a lot on how I can use these different conventions to apply different feelings and atmospheres. I now know that for my music video if I want to do a video where I enhance my star image I should look into doing a performance based video. I also know that if I want to tell a story that it would be a more amplified narrative. This is because I feel this way I will be able to apply a better narrative. I have also learnt from watching a few video’s doing a disjunctive styled video would not be very suitable for my genre as it doesn’t encode or decode anything and I also don’t think that’s a style I would be very good at ‘directing’ as such.
