This is the story board me and Tristan designed in order for our shots to run smoothly.

This is the final video of mine and Tristan’s continuity edit.

In this task we were learning how to use a variety of different camera techniques and angles, for example: close ups, medium shots, match on actions, eye line matches and frame within a frame, we had to create a video that was going to show the reaction of a character to a certain situation, in this case receiving a love letter. we were making a continuity edit.

Three Strengths: 

• I believe that the overall narrative and idea that me and Tristan chose, easily conveyed the 3 act structure (told by Todorov), it shows the reaction from Nicole as she realises Willem likes her.
• I used the frame within a frame technique exceptionally well, the use of the transition between Willem closing the locker door and Nicole re-opening it, clarifies to the reader who the letter was for, the frame within a frame allows you to focus on one subject within that frame.
• The use of the colour changing throughout the scene was interesting, I was not the best at this and attempted to distort some of the colours within the frame whilst leaving the rest in black and white, this worked for some scenes however not all, although where it has worked I believe it looked rather mysterious.

Three Weaknesses: 

• I should have got more close ups to show more facial expression.
• I didn’t fully follow the 180 degree rule meaning that the scene can be seen as rather distorting.
• I should have got an establishing shot of Nicole at her locker to make it clear for my audience.

This will be helpful when coming to making my music video as it has shown me that I need to follow the rules of filming otherwise the whole video will collapse as it will look distorted. It also enables be to become more confident using the camera and editing software, this will benefit my music video as I’ll be able to navigate the hardware and software relatively easily without any inconveniences.
