Reflection:
For this lesson I had to copy a magazine page using Indesign, which is a software that allows you to edit posters. Mine was of a Cardi B magazine.
I have also learnt how to use Indesign, for instance how to use different fonts styles and font sizes. I was trying to copy fonts and change the colours to reproduce the magazine. Magazines have conventional features, for instance cover lines, masthead, and cover stars. Cover lines are what makes the magazine stand out, the cover star is the main star represented in the magazine, the masthead is the main title of the magazine. These are all elements which attract the audience and make them want to buy the magazine.
what went well:
- I felt the Billboard title had a good font size compared to the magazine I was copying and also was in a good position.
- I also felt that the Cardi B title was in a good position.
- I got the right colours for each of the fonts
What I could do better:
- I felt that my lines were not straight, as it is quite hard to keep them straight and keep them the same size.
- I thought that the 2020 woman in music wasn’t in the right position compared to the magazine, as it wasn’t really legible as it was in the way of the main cover star.
- The Cardi B font wasn’t really the right font.
How this will affect my magazine:
Learning how to use Indesign will impact how I make my music magazine poster and the photo shots, as I have learnt how to use different font sizes and to create lines while adding weight to them so that they are legible. Also when using Indesign I also have a lot of things to improve on for instance, making sure I select the right font and that it’s in a good position.
The two videos I chose and how they will help me:
These two videos will help me use indesign, this will allow me to get better at the stuff I am weak at, while also giving me tips and tricks. For the first video, it teaches me on how to make a straight line, as when I was copying the magazine cover I found it quite hard to make the lines straight. The second video is a fairly short video on tips on how to use indesign.
