CCR 3 Essay

  • How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?
  • How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?
  • How do your products represent social groups or issues?
  • How do your products engage with the audience?

Draft 3 of Digipack

This is our third draft of our digipack…

Some Peer Feedback on what genre they think our genre is. A recognisable and conventions of the genre all attribute to the brand image.  Our genre is not particularly specific to one singular one of these genres, however our niche genre could be considered to be within all three of the ones that got voted.

What new?

  • The images on the inside left cover have been changed out with an image of our star’s, the image is enveloped by shadows portrayes an ‘edgy’ star image
  • The inside right cover’s image has been replaced with our own image, and the main text has now been incorperated into the scene using Photoshop, conveying the ‘homemade’ image of the brand
  • The back cover’s image has been replaced with an image in which it is easier to see the text
  • Elements that represent the band’s star image have been added to the back cover
  • The barcode of the back cover has had an engraved effect placed on it in order to pish the brand’s ‘homemade’ image

Whats next?

  • The inside left cover requires some more elements that convey the brand navigators
  • The text around the glass on the inside right cover is not incorperated into the scene and looks artificially added
  • The texture of the text on the inside right cover is not our own
  • There is no copywrite on the back cover

We have made a good amount of changes in this draft, in hopes that the quality has been hightened. The left inside cover has been completely changed, now there is an image of our stars rather than shots being poured. We have done this because we realised that our stars did not showcase on thw whole digipack, which we thought was crucial to implement. We did not lose much when changing the shots geting poured as we still have the birds eye view of the beer on the inside right. This conveys the idea of british drinking vulture among young adults throughout the country, which closely alligns with the genre of our band. We definitely wanted to implement this idea into our digipack as it is showcased in our music video, but we felt as if two sides was unnececary and wanted to include our stars.

Social media Page Draft 2 – Teacher Feedback

This is our second draft of our social media page followed with some feedback from our teacher…

Teachers feedback

  • Remember to say how to get show tickets
  • Have multiple stories selling these
  • A story with a countdown to ticket release or a photo of ‘sold out’ or new dates announced would  be great
  • Remember it’s about the release of an album so consider how you are promoting that
  • Doing normal ‘ordinary’ stuff – the BTS song writing works well – but maybe ‘backstage’ images.
  • Look at some professional examples and consider the comments / captions
  • Do some ‘at home with…’ stories
  • BTS music video – could you do a story on this?
  • Voting poll for final post should be the album launch  – countdown to this
  • Lead singer in the pub?
  • It’s good – you just need more

This feedback will help us in the future as we intend to implement every aspect of this feedback into our final draft of our social media page. Mainly we need to focus on adding stories of our day-to-day life and an insight into the behind the scenes of the band.

Final Draft of Music Video

This is our final draft of our music video…

Reflection

This draft has a fair few changes since our last draft, mostly small things that overall, make the quality of our video better. The new text at the beginning of the video represents our star image straight away. Through the graffiti font, rebellious and boisterous connotations can be taken from this, which further strengthens the star image of young careless boys messing around.

We also decided to add in some zoom effects throughout the video when we felt as if it had gone state for a moment, and some movement in the frame picks up the pace. This effect also contributes to the impact of certain scenarios, such as when we brake and stop the car. Another example where we have implemented this is when the boss shouts at the employees to exaggerate his anger and power. However this is being made fun of when the workers run away.

The many different aspects in our video all abide by the typical conventions of the brit-pop genre, further strengthening the star image. This is done through the use of bossy, and almost sassy body language, representing the boisterous nature of the group. Also through the mise-en-scene used throughout the video. Retro clothing with unique colours portrays a sense of carelessness of the group, also through their actions throughout. The setting of the video is nothing out of the ordinary, further promoting our relatability and background with the audience. This allows the audience to reinforce their personal identities(Blumler and Katz) through connecting and relating to the video in terms of where it is filmed.

Throughout the production process of the video, I had learned many skills that all contributed to the end product. One skill that I believe especially impacted the quality of the video was learning to time the video with the song. This makes it seem as if the video was made specifically for the song. It makes the video more aesthetically pleasing to watch with it on time, and the overall quality of the video dramatically increases. With the video being a good watch, it is destined for success. This means that the video will increase the bands success musically, as more people will listen to the music and that is the overall goal of a band. The music video is a tool for promotion of an artist’s music(Goodwin) and having a good quality video allows for success.

Timeline and Marketing Ideas

In order to create a solid campaign, we created a timeline involving what we wish to include within our campaign. This will provide us with some sort of direction when it comes to posting different conrten throughout our campaign. We intend to do many different types of posts, such as collaborations with brands. These brands will have similar target audiences to us which will attract more customers in both directions. Posting teasers will create a hype around the releases of our music and allow the audience to remember the dates.

After we had reasearched similar campaigns of our genre, we have constructed a marketing campaign that alligns with the blueprint (altman) of our brit-pop genre. Including posts on our social media such as interractive Q&A’s to suit the needs of consumers (Blumler and Katz). We have included brand deals (synergy) with brands of similar interest to our band, creating a sense of relatability to ther audience and to reinforce their personal identities(Blumler and Katz).
