Test Shoot

This was a very short test shoot to trial what we were going to do when shooting officially.

The narrative is important to engage the audience; narrative gives the audience content to associate with the genre of the video and star images being portrayed to provide the audience with some uses and gratification which Blumler and Katz’ theory suggests as the 4 reasons for media consumption. By using media language and narrative codes, we can reinforce the star image. This is crucial as the aim of a music video is to get people to relate to the stars in the video. This is made easier for the audience when the star image is as clear as possible and the type of person displayed is easily relatable to the audience.

Lip Syncing Exercise

This is my first attempt at making a short music video and practicing lip syncing. This involved me syncing the video up with the song to make it look as if the song is really being sang by the performer.

Some things that I could improve on is…

  • Syncing up the audio and the video
  • Using better lighting so we can see all the performers
  • Use the same shots more often

And some things  that I thought were good was

  • The shot with the shadows
  • The dolly shot

This is the shot list that I tried to follow to recreate the original Pretender Music video –

This exercise is important as if the lip syncing is out of time then the whole video will not be very good quality. Also, this exercise helped us to work on body language while lip syncing and helps to portray a good star image, for example the body language of the performer/s needs to match the genre and pace of the song.
