Draft 3 of Digipack

This is our third draft of our digipack…

Some Peer Feedback on what genre they think our genre is. A recognisable and conventions of the genre all attribute to the brand image.  Our genre is not particularly specific to one singular one of these genres, however our niche genre could be considered to be within all three of the ones that got voted.

What new?

  • The images on the inside left cover have been changed out with an image of our star’s, the image is enveloped by shadows portrayes an ‘edgy’ star image
  • The inside right cover’s image has been replaced with our own image, and the main text has now been incorperated into the scene using Photoshop, conveying the ‘homemade’ image of the brand
  • The back cover’s image has been replaced with an image in which it is easier to see the text
  • Elements that represent the band’s star image have been added to the back cover
  • The barcode of the back cover has had an engraved effect placed on it in order to pish the brand’s ‘homemade’ image

Whats next?

  • The inside left cover requires some more elements that convey the brand navigators
  • The text around the glass on the inside right cover is not incorperated into the scene and looks artificially added
  • The texture of the text on the inside right cover is not our own
  • There is no copywrite on the back cover

We have made a good amount of changes in this draft, in hopes that the quality has been hightened. The left inside cover has been completely changed, now there is an image of our stars rather than shots being poured. We have done this because we realised that our stars did not showcase on thw whole digipack, which we thought was crucial to implement. We did not lose much when changing the shots geting poured as we still have the birds eye view of the beer on the inside right. This conveys the idea of british drinking vulture among young adults throughout the country, which closely alligns with the genre of our band. We definitely wanted to implement this idea into our digipack as it is showcased in our music video, but we felt as if two sides was unnececary and wanted to include our stars.

Draft 2 of Digipack – Teacher Feedback

This feedback will help us to further improve our work and specific direction as what to do. It is importsnt to get another person’s point of view of your products to outline any problems that you cannot see personally. We intend on covering every point of feedback in this to make our work the best it can be.

This is our second draft of our digipack, along with some teacher feedback.. This feedback will assist us to further improve our coming drafts and provides us with direction as what to do next. We will take into consideration everything that our teacher has written and make the changes in the future accordingly.

Digipack Draft 1

For this task, we began to create a front and back cover for our digipack..

Whats good?

  • Design fits band’s star image
  • DTP used effectivley for front page
  • Text on front page is clear ensuring fans of the band can quickly identify it as produced by ‘Graze’
  • Star image communicated through image on front cover to effectively captivate our target audience
  • Album name typeface is similar to orignal Cook’s Matches typeface

Focus forward

  • Back cover image needs to be re-shot in order to allow tracklist element to be clearer
  • Elements that support genre to need to be added to ensure we give our target audience their preffered reading (Hall)
  • Barcode needs to be incorperated into the style of the back cover
  • Song names need to be added into back cover

Social Media Page Terminology

Having all the typical conventions of a successful social media page as it helps to draw attention to the band and develops a strong brand image. Social Media is a way of promoting the band’s music through other forms, and can also provide an insight into the group’s life for fans to relate to. Fans are able to further reinforce their social identity and achieve their social interaction needs(Blumler and Katz) through directly interracting with the group members. All of this leads traffic towards the bands music, attributing to the overall success of the band as artists.  This is an analysed social media page of how the different conventions represent the brand. Everything on view to the public all contributes to the star image and how the band is percieved. We will ensure that the quality of all of our posts is good as it is crucial to have a similar theme throughout the whole page. We will aim to have a similar colour palette throughout the whole page.

Evaluation of Shoot/ Design process

  • How is it going?

I am happy with the result of our first shoot and the idea behind our digipack. I believe that It will turn out well as we have a clear plan as to what we aim to produce.

  • What went well?

Our shoot went very smoothly as we had a very simple design and was not difficult to plan. We needed very few items going into the shoot and we were able to source a lot of the props from around school. However this simplicity does not impact the quality of our product as we intend to spend a long time in the post production phase, fine tuning and editing our original images.

  • What needs to be a target?

A target of our is to make sure that we edit the images well enough so that it does not look edited, but infact real. A lot of our digipack will involve post production and we will need to ensure that the quality of this is good enough so that it does not look edited. We are very concious that it is very easy to edit improperly and the end product will not be good quality. For example, the back page will be alpmost entirely edited, apart from 1 image of the background. We will ensure that the editing work is equally split between the group members.

  • What are the next steps?

Our next steps is to fine tune the front and back page of our digipack and to take the photos for the two middle pages. We already have a fairly conscise plan for these pages and we need to make sure that it is executed well so that we get the product that we intend.

Production Meeting for photoshoot

This is our PMA for the first photoshoot of our digipack. We intend of doing another shoot dedicated just for the inside cover of our digipack. Luckily, for this shoot, not much equipment or planning was needed. We have created our matchbox cover and will print it out and stick it onto the matchbox rather than editing it after as we decided that it would be a lot more challenginf to do it that way. Eveything else was easily sourced and we did not really need to plan much for this shoot. There is morealess no risks to this shoot, hence the absence of a Risk assesment.

Digipack Mockup

Having a mockup of a project will make it easier and provide direction for your digipack. This will make the production process more efficent as you will already have some sort of idea to follow. However, you do not have to stick to this mockup and can branch off to improve – This does not have to be the final product, for example I think that we should not include our band members in the matchbox in the final product as I believe that it will look ‘tacky’.

This is the mockup for our digipack..

This is our digipack mockup that we intend to recreate. We will obviously have to do this ourselves rather than taking images from the internet. Our aim is to create a scene set on a table with various items scattered around the matchbox. We want it to look candid, just like any table in our stars house. We intend to put our three stars inside the matchbox however we are not sure as it maty make it look unprofessional and ‘tacky’.

Digipack Conventions Analysis

This is an analysis of a digipack of similar genre to ours. All of these conventions are common throughout the brit-pop genre so we ensure to use all of these, while still creating our own twist.

In reflection, we need to make sure that we stick to the conventional brit-pop digipack featuring things such as themes of british drinking culture, as it will be relatable to our audience. Analysing an album cover from a band within the Britpop genre will help create a repertoire of elements that we can use to build a blueprint for our band’s star image.

Our Look Book

This is a ‘Look Book’ showcasing all of the different conventions of the brit-pop genre. It is hugely important to ensure that you have a good understanding of the genre when creating media. Without the background knowledge you may struggle to create a conventional brit-pop piece. It is vital for the audience to establish a good and recognisable brand. A good brand image will make your brand more recognizable and directs more attention to it. This way you can gain a loyal audience and fanbase, which will increase the brand success.
In Refclection, the genre of brit-pop is almost about looking as unprofessional as possible while still being professional. Brit-pop stars always wear everyday, usual clothes and try to be relatable to their audience, while still having that extraordinary feel to their star image.
