Conventional design features of a magazine
In this lesson we labelled the technical conventions of a magazine. These are the typical features that you would see on the front cover of a magazine and also what the audience expect to see on the front cover.
Typical Conventions of a magazine
- Plug – something that advertises the magazine
- Masthead – the title of the magazine
- Pug – side text usually in bubbles at the top of the magazine
- Captions – pieces of text that tell the audience extra information
- Main Cover Star – the actor who is in the frame of the magazine (close up/mid shot)
- Cover Lines – information about what else is in the magazine
- Inset – a smaller image of another artist, album cover, movie etc.
- Main Cover Line – the title describing who the main cover artist is and some brief info on what they are doing/advertising
- Issue/Date – typically in the bottom right hand corner, tells you how often the magazine is released
- Price – how much the magazine is, located in the bottom right hand corner
- Barcode – located in the bottom right hand corner, used to scan the item in order to buy the magazine
This will help me when producing my magazine as I will know the different typical conventions to use in my own media work.
