Shoot 1 Reflection (Performance)

Reflection

I think that our shoot went fairly well, we took a variety of videos with different shots, angles and techniques. We did two seperate shoots, our first one was done in a field this helped to set the cottagecore aesthetic that we were aiming for in our video, the second shoot was taken in the white studio this enabled us to create contrast against the paint on her skin. Something that we could improve on recording our videos the whole way through the song, this will enable us to find the best out of the footage that we have used. We did numerous different locations within our shoots, although some other things we can improve on is to not underestimate our time as it ended up taking longer than we expected.

ProsĀ

  • we had a variety of locations.
  • The shoot turned out as well as we had planned in terms of lighting and MES EN SCENE.

ConsĀ

  • We underestimated the amount of time it would take to do the shoot.
  • We should have recorded the whole thing all the way through so that we had extra back up footage if needed, instead of multiple short clips.

Visual Shot List for Shoot 1 (Performance)

Made with Padlet
We made a visual shot list within padlet to organise how we will use different shots within our music, to convey meaning and emotion relating back to the genre and representing the star image. By using these shots we will be able to meet the conventions of a music video, as well as allowing us to create the repetoire of elements through cinematography within our video. Editing will also enable us to consistenly improve our video and make the transitions smoother.

Star Image – The Performer

We created a star image mood board to convey the star as being extraordinary and ordinary through different types of media, such as the news and twitter. This enables us to see the Paradox of the Star which was hypothesised by Richard Dyer, we were also able to see the representation of the star, as well as her target audience and the Metanarrative portrayed. This may impact my own decisions about our performance style and artist, as we may create shots and MES EN SCENE that portrays the star as friendly but also very secretive similary to how shes conveyed through media online. She is also displayed as friendly, healthy, vibrant, wistful and cheeky, this gives us a clear idea of how her personality will be represented through our music video through different shots and angles.

Risk Assessment

We created a risk assesment to go over and consider the risks and problem that may occur when shooting our music video. From this we were able to see what hazards we may come across, so that we can either try to avoid them or be prepared for them. After completing the form we signed it to ensure that we are aware of an problems that may occur, as well as getting the teachers signature to further confirm this.

Pitch and Feedback

Due to youtube access within our school, this video has been taken down.

After making our final pitch for our music video we discussed our pitch to the teacher and spoke about how our star image will be conveyed throughout the music video and how much perfomance, narrative we will inlcude and whether it will be amplified, disjunctive or illustrative. We also went through our themes and issues that will be present within the video.

6 Positive Targets from feedback…

  • We have included lip syncing.
  • Performance is included.
  • A transition has been used.
  • We added a filter to the video.

6 Goals for improvement…

  • Have another story within the video e.g. something significant to show that she is moving on from her ex.
  • Use more filters.
  • More of a variety of transitions.
  • Focus more on different angles.
  • Better MISE EN SCENE.
  • More variety of performance and narrative.

Initial song ideas for a video – Mini pitch

Before being put into groups I made a mini pitch to present my ideas for the music video as well as the song I have chosen, so when we are put into pairs we can discuss our ideas and choose a final song. During this presentation I considered the narrative and the type of narrative, so whether it was anachronic, linear, montage, amplified, illustrative and disjunctive. I also though about if performance would be included within the music video and if so how much of the video will consist of performance. I wrote about how parts of it will be edited to the beat and lip sync will be included, as well as how the star image will be conveyed with help through MES EN SCENE. I wrote down some locations in which the music video will take place.
