Narrative Development

This exercise helped us to understand what element we needed to add in to our video shooting in order to portray a clear and interesting narrative. By completing a simple narrative structure we identified key parts of our story line and what elements we had already used:

  • We identified that our narrative is amplified which gives up freedom to experiment but also means that the video is linked to the song and narrative
  • We also found that we need to involve more parallelism and binary oppositions in our performance such as feeling trapped Vs freedom
  • We found that so far, our video is not episodic, it is abstract and thematic. We will continue to link the theme to the narrative, just not in a specific order.
  •  Also by doing this exercise it was obvious what themes we are wanting to include and what else we need to take the time to go and do.
  • When doing a narrative it’s actually best to leave them incomplete because it then makes your audience want to watch it again whereas if you complete it they have seen it and won’t want to watch it again.
