Favourite Music Video from Former Student

Technical conventions…

They have included lip syncing within this music video, this helps to further enforce the star image and how the lyrics relate back to her. They have edited to the beat emphasising the effect, making it more eerie. The composition and framing has been carefully considered throughout this video, as they have used a variety of close up and long shots, as well as using the rule of thirds.

Narrative and performance…

They have used an equal amount of narrative and performance, the narrative doesn’t particularly portray a typical story line but part of the lyrics from the song are acted out frequently throughout.

How the star has been represented…

The star has been conveyed as a strong, female that can be powerful and controlling as well as having possibly a supernatural side to her. She seems to be creepy creating the idea that she can be intimidating at times.

How the video has been styled, designed, filmed and edited…

The video has been styled in an eerie kind of hospital setting, it has been designed to look dangerous and ghostly. The editing has been done to add effect to the beat and to exaggerate the fear that the actor is experiencing. They have filmed this video using different camera techniques such as zooming in and out, as well a variety of transitions.  This conveys the star image as unique and different, helping to promote the artists talent.

Focusing Forward…

From watching this music video it has enabled me to consider the different aspects of a music video and how I would like to set mine out in terms of MES EN SCENE, Narrative and performance.
