Managing the Workflow in Premiere

Help with Premiere

A really helpful video on how to manage your workflow in Premiere from Lenny Lenfesty, our visiting expert who will be visiting us next Thursday & Friday 17th & 18th September.

He is red hot on managing Premiere and if you haven’t got your workspace managed he will focus on that before he gets round to giving you advice or creative editing tips.

Be sure you’ve watched this and done some basic sorting of your workspace.

Cinema Stories

In partnership with the Psychology and Sociology department we are pleased to announce the first in the series of Cinema Stories.

We will be screening a notable film and will then hold a 30 minute Q&A discussion with a panel of experts on film and on the issues and topics explored in the movie.

The first event is scheduled for 5th October 7.00 – 10.00 and held at Candie Garden Museum.

The Film will be the documentary master piece by Asif Kapadia; AMY.

To book your place at this event, please click here.

Project Folder Management

You must use proper file and folder management during any project.

Please follow the instructions below for setting up your project folder on the Media / Film computers.

Some of the file types may vary, so if your doing a print project the edits will be Photoshop or Indesign Files instead of Premiere Files. Equally your drafts will be PDFs and Jpegs rather than video files.

Week 10 – Task 22 and Task 23 – Summing Up The Music Industry and resource collation

Welcome back after half term.

We have this week as our final week of distance learning, so make it count. We will be looking at TV drama for the rest of the week after these two summative tasks. Try and get a clear desk and blog league before we change tack tomorrow.

Task 22 – Session 1 – 1 hr

Here is a video of Mr G trying to explain the important take away points you need to consider and revise for the Media Contexts (Audience & Institutions).

Please watch through and make some bullet point notes on the significance of each the 6 exam foci.  A template is on classroom for you to use and turn in.

Task 23 – Session 2 – 1 hour

Compile your learning on the page ‘The Music Industry’, which you created in your blog.  Find all the resources you can – slideshares, worksheets, quizlets, voicethreads, videos, essays, templates, Q & A, presentations, glossaries of terms etc.

This is in order to help you recap your learning and also give you a brilliant revision source.

I suggest using the following headings to structure your page:

  1. Production
  2. Distribution
  3. Marketing
  4. Exchange
  5. Technology

Or just upload in the order you did the tasks i.e. follow the tasks on classroom as we dealt with the stages in chronological order anyway.

Remember, to update the blog league too.

We are really looking forward to seeing you next Monday. Woo hoo! But make sure you continue to work hard from home this week.

Seeing Sounds in Your Head

Synaesthesia…

…is a way of generating ideas from music – effectively ‘seeing sounds in your head’.

It is a really helpful technique to use when listening to music in order to come up with visual ideas. When listening to a piece of music you should concentrate on each of the following features in turn:

  • Sense of subject matter
  • Grain of voice
  • Arrangement
  • Suggested Stories
  • Cultural references

Here is a Prezi which explains and illustrates these ideas:

Task 1
  • You will listen to two songs and write down the images, ideas, colours, adjectives, themes, subjects that come to mind when listening to the lyrics, beat, grain of voice, tempo etc.
  • Then we will watch the videos and see how close you were to how the music was interpreted in visuals.

Favourite Student Music Video

What works and what doesn’t?

This is your opportunity to get a sense of what can be achieved by students and also understand the high standards you should be aiming for in your music video.

Task

What’s your favourite student video from the class of 2019?

Why?

Refer to all the areas you now understand help to make a good music video:

  • Technical conventions like lip syncing, editing to the beat, composition & framing
  • Narrative and performance ratio and the type of narrative has been created?
  • How the star has been represented (values, attitudes & beliefs)?
    • How has the video been styled, designed, filmed and edited – what have they done to convey that star image and promote the artist?

Do not write an essay but instead create some sub headings with some reflection and make a range of points about why it is your favourite video.

    1. Uploading directly from a drive on your computer (or SD Card)
    2. Uploading to Google Drive first and then importing into WeVideo
    3. Your teacher may share footage which you can use, you’ll find it in Shared Media.

  5. Share your media (footage) to your project
  6. Edit in the timeline
  7. Download as a HD into your Google Drive.

Music Videos – Detailed Analysis x 2

Here’s a music video we’re going to complete a close analysis of…

If you don’t like it choose another, but check with your teacher first, there are some old favourites below…

You should type  up that analysis and embed it into a post called “Close Analysis of Music Video.” and then also complete another one of your choice. Use the ones below or from somewhere else but the ones below are full of points to analyse/deconstruct.

Here is a blank version of the form you can use.

This work is important as it shows that you are able to deconstruct the narrative, performance, star image and generic & technical conventions of a music video. This will help inform your own production ideas.

Kodaline – Love Like This

Lana del Rey – Born to Die

Taylor Swift – Wildest Dreams

Christina Aguilera – Say Something

Foo Fighters – Pretender
